So I was just checking out the box score from today's Cubs game and I check the attendance at the game and it tells that it was 39,245 at 95% capacity. There is no way in hell there was that many people at the game today, the stadium was half filled at most. How is this possible???

Paid attendance, not butts in seats.

It would be interesting to see for MLB (like the NFL) a "no-show" count . . .

That's probably how many tickets were sold for the game, not the actual amount that showed up.

I was under the impression that attendance was the turnstyles not the amount of tickets sold. My bad.

No, it changed quite some time ago. I can't remember how long for the AL; but vaguely recall it was sometime in the 1980s for the NL.

No more on anything related to the a-word from me . . .

They should also subtract tickets sold to the Wrigley Premium Scalpers that no one wanted to buy.

I thought the NL based attendance on actual turnstile count. I know they used to. Guess not anymore...:o:

"Announced attendance," (http://www.whitesoxinteractive.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=69386) two words in the Cubune lexicon for Sox games but never to be found in the Cubune lexicon for Cubbie games.

I know a couple of callers to MJH said around 25,000. If that.

The teams have the actual numbers of people that actually showed up. I'll be 6 feet under before they ever release those numbers

Yeah, I just read a new place called the "United Center" just opened, replacing the Stadium.
