It is pretty much assumed that Ozzie will do what he can get as many Sox players on the team as possible. Anyone have any predictions on which Sox will make the team ?

Here's mine:

Crede, Thome, Iguchi and 2 Sox starting pitchers, between Buehrle, Contreras, Garcia and Vazquez - I'll go with Contreras and Vazquez.

I think Konerko will miss out because of Thome and other good 1B.

I don't think that he'll pick Jenks or 3 Sox starting pitchers.

He might pick Dye or A.J ?

Anyway, I know it's still early but I'll predict Crede, Iguchi, Thome, Vazquez and Contreras.

Yeah Torre really screwed that up. I hate the Yankees for so many reasons.

Konerko will be hard to leave off, if he continues as he is. At the moment I would say Crede, Konerko, Thome, Iguchi. At least two from the starting rotation between Contreras, Buehrle, Vazquez, & Garcia. A.J with an outside chance as well. In reality there is a long way 'til the break and much can change. I don't think any will be voted in as a starter.

Konerko is going to make it barring a huge slump cuz he is the Captain... other than him I see Crede, Thome, Iguchi and Dye as a longshot...

Garcia, Vazquez, Contreras from the rotation

Linky (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Major_League_Baseball_All-Star_Game)
Each team consists of 32 players, selected in one of the following ways, listed in order:

Fan voting: Baseball fans vote on the starting position players for the All-Star Game, with ballots distributed at baseball games before mid-season and, more recently, on the Internet (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internet). When the game is played at an American League park, the designated hitter (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Designated_hitter) for the AL team is also selected in this manner.
Player voting: As of 2005, pitchers (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pitcher) and one back-up player for each position are elected by the other players. If the top vote-getter at a certain position is also being voted in via fan voting, then the second-place finisher in this category is chosen for the team.
Manager selection (first): The manager and the Commissioner's Office (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baseball_Commissioner) will fill the roster up to 31 players.
Final vote: After the lists of 31 players for each league is announced, fans will vote for one additional player, chosen from a list of 5 players provided by the manager and the Commissioner's Office.
Manager selection (second): After the final vote, the manager and the Commissioner's Office will replace players who are injured or declined to participate. Each major league team is guaranteed to have at least one player selected to participate, though single players from poor teams are occasionally not used (Detroit (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Detroit_Tigers)'s Dmitri Young (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dmitri_Young), in 2003, was the last to be selected and not be put into the game by the manager).

sorry, but Thome's NOT going. Threres no DH in Pittsburgh, and they wont give him a firstbasemens spot

If he is leading the AL in both home runs and RBI's and has a BA over .300, there is ZERO WAY he is not going...

Forget the reserves.... With our attendance at record levels plus with the best record in baseball and all the national attention we're getting I think we've got a real good shot at a couple starters. IMO Konerko and Iguchi are the 2 best bets. What do you think?

Ever hear of a pinch hitter? I don't expect to see Contreras, Schilling or Mariano Rivera carrying a bat to the dish.

I don't think high attendance is as important as it used to be. I would think a large % of the voting is now done online.

Many players only pinch hit, especially in years when there is no DH. In Tommy Harper's case in 1970, when he was leading the league in stolen bases, he was selected simply to pinch run (and with two out in the fifth, Johnny Bench threw him out). Carlos May and Pat Kelly each appeared in one World Series and only pinch hit. The fact that they were outfielders was irrelevant.

Thome is a first baseman who hasn't played first base all year. He is primarily hitter.

Ozzie's All Stars are much like the Little Lebowski Urban Achievers. And proud we are of all of them.

I think you'll get a few voted in by the players. If they keep up this start I wouldn't be surprised to see 5 voted in by fans/players.

In the Suntimes today, Ozzie said he wants Ozuna on the team.
