5/11 game cancelled because of rain all day. I know of the thread in the roadhouse, but figured I would put this here so everyone saw it, and hopefully saved them the trouble. I am an employee at the park, and just got the call from my boss.

i tried to tell everyone, that dude's girlfriend works in sales at the cell. he said it in an earlier thread.

oh well. secretly i'm hoping they play a fourth game in anaheim, but that's totally selfish of me.

No surprise. I was waiting for when, not if, they would make the announcement. It's been rainy, cold and windy all day, and isn't going to clear up for a while. An unexpected off day in the middle of a stretch of 16 straight games.

Can't Joe Crede just pick up the entire storm system and throw it north, to Wisconsin?

See, this proves my theory that the man upstairs is a Sox fan. This just gives Jose another day of rest.

How long before first pitch did the Sox cancel the game that was going to compete with the Bulls playoff game in 1996 (yes, I know the weather was crappy)?

I just called the White Sox office. It has not been offiically cancelled yet. They are going to try to make a decision within the hour because both teams have to travel. She said the Sox website would be updated in moments after the decision to cancel is made. They would also announe it on the Score (670).

They could have started Garland last night on normal rest anyway (because of the off day on Monday). I wonder why they were in such a rush to get Haeger a major league start?

Anytime you get achance to rest, you rest...I know some pitchers don't like it, but in the long run, it helps

I pretty sure It was during the day like 12 or so because some guys at work were giving me **** saying the sox didnt want to go up against a bulls game and only have 100 people in the park. The weather wasnt that crappy that day it was cold though. I thought it was bull that they called that game.

Close. A few years ago in April, we got down to the park a few hours before game time and saw the marquee said "Tonight's Game Has Been Cancelled". The temperature was predicted to be 20 degrees at game time.

I remember that day. Got all the way to the park and there was an 8x11 Wordperfect sign on the glass doors of Gate 4 that said "today's game cancelled due to rain" and it wasn't raining. It WAS crappy out that day but we all knew it was called because of the Bulls. Kinda pissed me off actually.

Haven't heard it was cancelled on the Score, and they just ran the scoreboard there. All this speculation is getting on my nerves. Some people seem to be jumping the gun here.:(:

BTW, is it true that cancelling the last game of a series is a MLB decision (and not the decison of the home team?)

That was the game I was referring to. I think the temperature was dropping to 20...might have been wind chill, but still, too cold for a game. I didn't hear about the cancellation until I got to the park at 5ish.

Are you insinuating that you can't predict Chicago's weather 48 hours in advance?

Hell, they had to throw someone not in the normal rotation at some point during JC's DL stint. The people complaining about Haeger throwing yesterday would have been complaining about him throwing Monday if they bumped Garland up to yesterday.

Ozzie doesn't do that. He has long said he prefers just to stick with the rotation and over the course of a season the extra rest helps the pitchers stay fresher.

No makeup date has been announced. But fans holding tickerts and pre-paid parking passes for Thursday's game are asked to keep them because they will be good for only the rescheduled game.

That seems pretty ****ty of them. I mean, you're giving fans more notice on the cancellation, but a lot of people won't be able to make it to the recheduled game.

in terms of the rainout, oh well. It also takes out having Haeger/BMac pitching in the Twins series and has one of them pitching against the DRays. 4 man rotation against the Twins: Garland, Vazquez, Buehrle, Garcia. That sounds REAL good to me :gulp:

My point is that USUALLY on rainouts, they allow the value of the ticket to be applied towards any future game. For example, if you have a $14 upper deck ticket, and the game gets rained out, it basically counts as a $14 gift certificate that can be applied to any future game. This says that "they will be good for only the rescheduled game." People buy tickets because they can go to THAT game. However, if it gets rained out, there really isn't a problem because most people can make another game sometime in the future. However, most people who could make it today aren't necesarily just going to be free to come to the ballpark on whatever day they decide to reschedule it, and from the way they worded it, it makes it seem like they are **** out of luck.

All three have the Angels on the road, and most often traveling east.
Personally, I expect them to replay on 8/7...make any unsold seats half price, while pocketing full price ticket revenue from rain game.
But I would love an afternoon tilt on 5/25 or 7/27. Dollar hot dogs and warm weather.

I kinda wish that hack was just changed to say "Brandon McCarthy" when B Mac" is typed, instead of "Fingernails on a blackboard" - mainly because it might imply that watching B-Mizzle pitch is like fingernails on a blackboard, which, in most cases is not true.

just an edumacated guess but I would say that the hack has it set up that if you type as is instructed, B.M.A.C. without the periods automatically spits it out as:

A few (or just one) of the mods find the nickname "B Mac" so annoying (even though the man himself has a WSI name USING that moniker), that there is a built in hack that changes the nickname into "bmac" whenever it is typed. (without the space between b and m)

That doesn't sound right at all. Do you know how many people would try to use those to get into the Cubs/Sox series?
