My dad, good ol' Alibi Ike would have been 82 today, I long remember him tuning in the Sox games on the old radio, we were 90 miles away so sometimes it wasn't easy. We listened constantly, he would take a radio to the lake on weekends so he could hear the game & got ticked off when some of his friends hollered to hear the Cubs rather than his beloved Sox. He very much enjoyed rubbing the 17 consecutive winning seasons tthat Torn Labrum decribed here recently in his Minnine & Mickey story, in the faces of those Cub fan friends of his.
That quote by Kenny Williams at the start of WSI about "winning again & again" would really warm dear old dad's heart if he were here today to enjoy it. He never felt lower about his Sox than back in '86 when the Hawk was placed in charge of the front office....he told me as early as May that year that hiring Hawk was the dumbest move that the Sox could have made. I hated hearing him say that but by golly he was right.
I think dad would love this Kenny Williams guy!
I miss ya' ol' man
