Fire Kenny Williams now. Good job Arow! But unfortunately it looks like it will overshadowed by steroid boy's home run. I was watching Sopranos, so I didn't see it. Did the crowd boo the hell out of him? (Bonds that is)

Did the crowd boo the hell out of him? (Bonds that is) Only each time he came to bat, ran out to left field or ventured to the on-deck circle. Other than that, not that much.:redneck

Add another run scored by Aaron in the 7th!

EDIT: Check out how these fans are treating Bonds

All sarcasm aside, he did make a nice diving catch on a ball in the gap tonight. Although, he got a terrible jump because he broke back on the ball.

They booed him pretty badly, but the revisionist ESPN announcers would have you believe that about 3/4 of the stadium was cheering him after he hit his homerun. To be honest, I didn't hear that many boos when he went deep as opposed to when he came up to bat or caught a ball in the OF, but they certainly weren't cheering him on. The announcers got worse and worse too. Right after it happened, they basically said that there were some people cheering him (which I am sure is correct), but then as they came back from commercial the next inning, it was "a good number" or something like that. Finally I think I heard "a lot" or "a big portion".

Seriously, Philly fans would never cheer on Bonds. Get a clue ESPN.

Did anyone see the ad for the WS Ring raffle on the jumbotron at the Cell? It's a picture of AJ, Crede (I think) and a guy in a suite (Rowand). They cut out his head and put a bubble that says "this could be you."

Yeah, thats why he had to make a diving catch. Anderson catches that ball standing up.

The weirdest thing about last night was hearing Gammons declare Rowand "One of the best centerfielders on the planet."

Right after Gammons said that, Rowand made a diving, face-forward catch. It was Miller's turn to go wild. "What a catch! That ball fooled him initially. He got a late break, but he got it!"

I laughed out loud and wondered if Randar had just thrown something at his TV.

It's simple. This is the TALKING BASEBALL forum, where sox fans talk about non-sox baseball topics. Sox fans love Rowand. Sox fans want to talk about Rowand. Sox fans post thread about Rowand in appropriate forum. Whiny sox fans post in thread bitching about it, in attempt to direct the course of discussion on the board. I believe this is the phenomena known as trolling.

Ok so why is there not a single thread for every sox player from this team of the past, why is there no everett thread for a hr he hits or even a thomas thread, thomas is more of a fan fave over rowand ever will be.

It gets annoying trying to read thru the forum and seeing numerous threads devoted to 1 player when they could be consolidated. I mean should we expect 100 threads on just rowand alone because he has the potential to make 100 good plays? *****, it clutters the boards.

I wonder if there will be rowand appreciation threads when the phillies should play the sox and if he hits a homerun, then more darkclouds will state the thome trade being a bust cuz of that.

1. I only see three threads about Rowand and they have slightly different twists. IMO, that isn't "clutter". I don't see the need to consolidate.

2. If you don't want to be annoyed by FOC's, don't read the thread or at least stop posting in it causing it to be at the top of the page.

3. Aaron Rowand was a fan favorite because of his work ethic and personality. A lot of people identify with him and many here have met him. Even if you only had a brief encounter with Aaron Rowand, it was easy to see that he truly is one of the "good guys" in the game. This is why he is loved, not because people think that he is a future HOFer (which we aren't that carzy!).

4. From what I can tell, Rowand loves the White Sox organization. If he isn't back here during his playing career, I definitely see him back here in some capacity when his playing days are over.

5. I'm pretty damn close to being Aaron's #1 fan and I did get emotional when he was traded...and I never, ever did that about a Sox player in my adult life before. However, there is no way I want to "un-do" the trade. Hell, I always thought that it was a great trade. And unlike the other former Sox players, Aaron seems to understand what happened and isn't bitter.

Um, so yeah...we love ARow. I could think of a lot of other things wrong with this world, so stop picking on us.

But, I wasn't heartbroken when he was traded and don't understand peoples tears when they see him on the World Series DVDs and the threads now on him when he's on the Phillies.

I can't believe Rowand gets all this love and Frank Thomas, the greatest player in White Sox history gets next to nothing. Yeah, Frank ran his mouth off but come on...Frank was 10x the player Rowand will ever be and it seems like he is all but forgotton. I hope I'm proven wrong on May 22.

People may argue this, but of all the players on the 2005 Sox, Rowand, IMO, best fit the definition of a "grinder". Maybe he wasn't the best, but damned if he wasn't out there hustling. IOW, Guillen's kind of guy. That's why so many people on the boards like him. Certain players will always have a soft spot in Sox Fan's hearts even after they're gone. Rowand, I think, is one. Fair enough?

Rowand was the epitomy of grinder

In fact, I'd be willing to bet that the whole campaign was inspired by him.

Indeed, if u wanna look at numbers, singleton had a better fielding percentage than rowand, as did mike cameron and several others, so instead of the clutch dives he made in the final 2 months of the season, how is he the best fielding CF in sox history

Any moron with half a brain would know Rowand is not only NOT the best fielding CF'er the Sox have ever had, but he's not even in the top 3 (or IMO 5) of the past 10 years!

Sheeesh...

1) Cameron
2) Singleton
3) Anderson
4) Kenny Lofton
5) Brian Simmons
6) One Dog

somewhere around here is where "Circle The Wagons" Aaron belongs.

I think most Sox fans hated to see Aaron go (especially to such a crappy team) and wish him the best of luck.

I was just watching the Mets/Phillies game and Aaron led off the second with a triple that has sparked 3 runs. He's batting .317 with 38 hits, 6 homers, 4 doubles and 2 triples. His OPS is in the mid .800s I think.

Thome has undoubtedly helped put a nametag on our Sox saying "Hi my name is Offense" - who thinks this trade was a good move, great move, bad move, only-time-will-tell move?

This was a great move, you get one of the best hitters in the game, and get him for a solid centerfielder. And then your replacment for rowand is probably a better defensive center fielder...The offense with brian doesn't really matter right now when you have all those people in front of him hitting well.

I mean seriously, who cares?

To answer the question posed in the opening post, it's a great move. It's obviously a great move. It's not even debatable anymore. The Sox are obviously a better team with Jim Thome on it than at any time last year save the 3 weeks Frank was actually healthy and playing.

Gammons writes about the winning Phillies and one of the reasons why, Aaron Rowand:

Rowand is one of those baseball characters -- dirt dog -- who was a vital part of the world champion White Sox and has transformed the Phillies, all while playing center field as well as anyone in the game. In spring training, he made it a point to go to lunch or dinner with everyone on the team. He goes up and down the dugout offering what seems to be the right charm at the right times. "He was the perfect guy to bring to this team," says Burrell. And when Charlie Manuel decided to take Rowand out of the two hole, move Utley there and get Howard into the fifth spot, Rowand said, "I don't care where I hit. Fit everyone else where the lineup works best, then give me my place. It's all about winning."

Rowand shows his character and class yet again. This guy is the real deal.

So, it looks like one of those trades that has benefited both clubs. Philly is happy with Aaron and Thome has been awesome for us.

Trades can never be evaluated this early. If Thome goes down, it will get blasted. If Gonzalez of Haigwood turn out to be the next Johan Santana, it will get blasted.

I was for the trade when it happened (and still am) because we needed protection for Konerko and a LH big bopper. Doesn't necessarily mean that they did not get the better end of the deal.

I'm of the school of thought that says if Thome hits .300/45/120 or thereabouts and the White Sox go deep into the playoff, nothing Gonzalez, Rowand, or Haigwood can do two or three years down the line will make this trade a failure for Kenny.

Yep. And Thome's value is more than just his numbers. Guys around him in the line-up are hitting better than they would be without him in the line-up. He is the center piece of the Sox line-up. Aaron will never be the center piece of any line-up.

What's wrong with liking a player that was once on the White Sox? Do some of you just like the uniforms? To you it doesn't seem to matter who is in the uniforms, as long as it's a Sox uniform. Once that player is gone, they don't matter anymore? If all you are cheering for is the laundry, then stay in the basement. I would love to see the Phillies play the cubs later this year if I could get tickets. And sure, seeing a Brewers game means getting to see Lee. That's great. Rowand was one of my favorite players and he still is. Just because he's on the Phillies now doesn't mean my admiration for him lessens. DUH.

Since this thread is in WTS anyway, I'll share my own Jeffrey Dahmer story.

My friend and I visisted the Wisconsin State Fair in August 1991, just a few weeks after Dahmer was arrested and his atrocities were made public. Our motel was in Milwaukee, so we stopped at a Fuddruckers for dinner. Since we were immature and insensitive high school sophomores (wise fools) with incredibly morbid, ghastly senses of humor, when the cashier asked for our name, we gave the name "Dahmer." The cashier looked at us funny but entered it anyway. When our food was ready for pickup, the manager paused briefly before saying "order for...uh...Dahmer" over the intercom, and the all the patrons went silent, glaring at us as we went to pick up our food.

They just showed an interview with him on SportsCenter, all bandaged up, talking about the catch he made.

He said that with the bases loaded and two outs, he needed to support a pitcher who was prone to big innings...

When asked about the consequences of running into the wall, he said, "Hey, we're here to win games."

Godspeed, Aaron.

I hope we get to see another player with even one tenth of the heart you've shown throughout your career.

I also don't think there is any way in hell Rowand runs down the smash in the 7th last night. Anderson is such an amazing CF and he doesn't injure himself by running into walls to make the catch. I like Rowand, but the Sox made out like bandits in this trade...

Well played.

Seriously though, Thomas was gone no matter what so if you swap Rowand for Anderson and Thome for Everett, the Sox shelled out an extra $3 million a year for a better defensive center fielder with only a moderate decline in offensive ability and a DH who is currently the biggest masher in the AL.

I say the Sox won big. Visions of the Garcia-Oliva-Reed trade dance in my head.

I don't know if anyone noticed, but about 3/4 of the way through the interview, he lifted his right hand up for something and he was wearing his World Series ring!

This was a great interview and only exemplifies his desire to be a grinder ball athlete no matter where he plays.

I loved Aaron Rowand's time on the south side, but I agree with other posters here. Anderson is a better CF'er IMHO. And Rowand deserves credit for making that catch, but he's also out for two weeks in the process. It will be interesting to see if he's willing to crash full speed into outfield walls when he returns. All in all, I'n very happy with BA patrolling center.

Not that it should need stating at this point, but I don't think respecting Rowand is incompatible with supporting Anderson. The kid's going to be fine, and I hope he doesn't think he needs to bust his chops on the centerfield wall to earn our respect.

Every time I think of A-Row I remember that series in New York last year when he made, what, a dozen spectacular catches over the three games. You could just tell the Yankee$ would get pissed off when they hit it anywhere near centerfield because they knew he was going to catch up to everything.

I really like Anderson defensively, but I just don't see him getting the breaks like Aaron did-yet.

I think the reason you don't see all the spectacular catches Rowand made is because Anderson takes better routes, and his catches are pretty routine. Anderson has had his share of spectacular catches so far, but hasn't had to rely on them as much as Rowand did.

Anderson routinely makes catches that other CF would have to dive for or watch go over/under/around their mitts. His reads off the bat are as good as anyone I can remember seeing in a long time. He is already one of the best defensive CF in the game and once he gets truly comfortable, he is going to make a run at best defensive CF in the game and in Sox history, IMO.

I am still in awe of that triple he took away on Sunday with the Sox up 2 and men on 1st and 2nd and one away late in the game. It was like he was the ball when it left the bat, because the minute it was hit he took off running for the fence, turned around and made a fairly routine grab right in front of the fence. His arm is also excellent, he just needs to find his rhythym and teams are going to stop running on him.
