What team did you hate the most as a kid and why? Let's try to keep the Flubsession to a minimum.

No contest, the damnYankees. Oh, and ANY team from Detroit for some reason.

TomBradley72

The Kansas City Royals.

During the 70's...road games at KC were a complete White Sox graveyard. Mayberry, Otis, Patek, Rojas, Brett, McRae, Splittorf, Busby....they just killed us.

I grew up in the '50s. The arch-rivals/most hated team was the Mickey Mantle Yankees.

Milwaukee Brewers. Seemed like every game I went to as a kid was Sox vs. Brewers, and the Sox usually lost.

I like them now that they are in the NL.

The Billy Martin-Reggie Jackson Yankees. I rooted against them every time.
Now I love them for the way they used to beat up on the Royal Chokers.

I also hated the Reds because they had Pete Rose, who back then was
the player I most hated.

The Kansas City Royals.

During the 70's...road games at KC were a complete White Sox graveyard. Mayberry, Otis, Patek, Rojas, Brett, McRae, Splittorf, Busby....they just killed us.

Not to mention Larry Gura, Dennis Leonard, Frank White, Dan Quisenberry, Willie Wilson, and everyone else who put that uni on and turned into a star.

Yank, Royals, and BoSox were not my favorite oppents from 1975-85, that's for sure.

The Pirates, because I lived in Western PA in my "formative" years in the late 70s and I got tired of hearing how great the Pixbird (or Pissbird) Pirates and Stillers were.

But I will say that the announcing team of Milo Hamilton and Lanny Frattere were one of the best ever!

I was gonna say the Royals for the reasons mentioned above, and "Hate" really fails to describe how I feel about the Yanks, so I come to the Orioles. Earl's boys used to kick our ass.
Lowenstein, Bumbry, Eddie Murray, Dempsey.
Gawd they pounded us.

4. Red Sox

I co-sign to that and added the Red Sox. I've always and will always have a distaste for Dallas, any Oakland team, the Yanks and the Sox.

I did however own a Dallas Cowboys "Fake" helmet that came with a ball and a kickers-tee. But cahmon, who didn't have one of those ! :bandance:

Exactly. Astro-turf field, pajama style uniforms, the whole nine yards....

In football, the Vikings. The Bears would kick them up and down the field between the 20's, and the Vikes would win by blocking a PAT

The American League Champions in 1949, 1950, 1951, 1952, 1953, 1955, 1956, 1957, 1958, 1960, 1961, 1962, 1963, 1964? The New York Yankees.

I'm with the old guard here: The Damn Yankees. There is nothing like the hatred born from the crushed dreams of a little boy.

My animosity towards the other two teams on my list, the Packers and they-who-must-not-be-named, is really more directed at their respetive insufferable fans.

My least favorite team?
The Whitesox actually. For many of the same reasons you speak of. My dad was a police officer too at County Stadium and would come home reeking of beer after Sox/Brewer games, not from drinking it but from wearing it. He kind of influenced me when I was a kid (as dads do). When I moved to Chicago 10 years ago, i quickly embraced the Whitesox as many of my friends were Whitesox fans, and the Cubs, well......they're the Cubs.
My dad kinda had a problem with at first, but it only took him one trip to Miller Park for a Cub/Brewer game before he realized who the real assclowns are.

Child of the 70's here. Too young to remember anything but divisional baseball, and the Yankees were in the East and pretty much sucked until '76. So Kansas City is the easy winner. They won the old A.L. Western Division year after year, and treated the Sox like **** in the process, too. Even in '77 with the Sox in first-place, the Royals were talking smack.

And not ten years earlier they were an expansion team...

Somehow I never really hated Charlie Finley's A's, even though they won the old A.L. West quite a few times in the early 70's. I'm guessing it's because I liked their white shoes.

As a kid in the eighties, I hated to go to a sox game against the Tigers, it was an automatic loss as far as I was concerned. Man, were those guys good. This feeling may have intensified after the 1st game I went to after the '83 season. Being a wee nard, the '83 season made me think it was manifest destiny for the sox to be top of the line, but that was shattered when Morris threw a no hitter in april of '84 - something my mind at the time could not fathom as possible. I guess I didn't really hate the Tigers, I just hated watching them make the Sox look AAA.

One of my first Sox ballpark memories (mid 70's) was these two guys who were cheering on the Orioles as they rolled over the Sox; man, was I mad. I also remember a photo of Britt Burns in the paper the day after he lost game 4 of the AL penant - he was completely devastated - and so was I for that matter.

Ok, I'm gonna go to my happy place: 2005.
