Me: (looking at scores) Yes, the sox pulled it off tonight!
Cubs Fan: Sox suck, cubs are way better.
Me: Ummm, who has the best record in the league again?
Cubs fan: Whatever, Maddux is gonna have a sub 2 ERA and win Cy Young
Me: And they still won't make the playoffs

Once again, cubs fans ignoring Grinder rule #10
Only one statistic matters....W

Oh boy, get ready to get ripped. Not from me, though. I actually enjoy stories like this.

There's just people that are tired of reading about "Cubsessed" experiences. To them I say if you don't like it, you don't have to read it.

I wouldn't consider them "cubsessed" as more as amusing stories. It could easily have been a fan of any other team, the cubs just have the dumbest fanbase

i'm really sick of being called "Flubsessed". How am i "flubsessed" if i recount a funny story i had making fun of a cubs fan. Theres nothing wrong with making fun of the other team.

I agree, look at the top of the forum... it's covered with Flub material. If you don't like, just keep reading the other forums. No need to bash everybody for sharing their experiences. Although, one big thread with stories may work better.

I will admit to being "Flubsessed" BB (Before Bartman) because out where I live, all I ever heard was "In Dusty we Trusty", attendance crap and so on. But AB (After Bartman) things settled down and of course, after the WS last year, well...let's just say the debate has been settled. I don't really worry about it anymore. It's good to be king.:D:

Cubs fan: Whatever, Maddux is gonna have a sub 2 ERA and win Cy Young

Was this before or after he gave up 5 ER in 5 IP to the D'backs?

I probably would have told him to put his money where his mouth is. Maddux is 40, and his ERA over the past 3 years is 4.08. He hasn't posted a sub-2 ERA since 1995. He hasn't posted a sub-3 ERA since 2002. He hasn't posted a sub-4 ERA since he re-joined the Cubs.

I feel the same way. Out here in the far west suburbs 95-98% of people who have an interest in baseball root for the Cubs. I got sooo much crap in '03 before the Cubs...well...just became the Cubs again. after they blew it, Sox fans were relieved of being the center of all baseball jokes. (I was in high school at the time) In '04 all of the talk was that the Cubs were going to win the WS at the beginning of the year. I told the Cub fans who were harassing me that the Cubs will be the Cubs again.(i.e. be watching the postseason at home like the rest of us) When the Sox won the World Series I stopped caring about the Cubs or their stupid fans. Which team is better? It now speaks for itself. I will admit, Cub fans are hard to ignore out here, but I do my best.

It can't possibly be 95-98% Cubs fans. I remember Maine West was about 75% Cubs fans and 25% Sox fans.

It probably isn't, but it sure seems that way.

I believe it was before. Does no good to bet money on stuff. Im still owed 40 bucks from the World Series which i will never see most likely. Thats what you get for betting with someone alot bigger than you. Also shows the integrity of a cubs fan though. Anyways, the point is that i don't believe any guys on the sox last year won an individual award but we did win the World Series.....hmmmmm which matters more again? Silly Cubs fans

Cub fans are obsessed with the Sox fan's obsession with the Cubs!

:o:

i'm not sure if it's me, but i'm sensing the sox fans aren't so cubs obsessed. what a relief. and we shouldn't be.

i understand why we got this way (2nd team, 2nd city, black sox, blah, blah, blah), but i'm also glad that we're getting over it.

we were like those feral children they find tied to a bed-post or locked in a cage from time to time: kept out of sight, neglected, social miscreants. we were treated like second class citizens by our neighbors -- fans of the worst team in professional sports (no, not the blackhawks!).

so in case anyone on this site, in this city or in north america hadn't noticed -- we won it all last year. we were and are a very good team.

so we're healthy now. we've crawled out of the cage. we don't have to snap at cubs fans like we're abused dogs.

the way to address morons is to show a littlle swagger. smile at an idiot:

you're wearing the world series champ hat/your jersey has the WS05 patch on it.
your ballpark has the banner.
we have a WS mvp (and a CS mvp)
our team is 20-9 right now. best in the bigs.
our ace just won pitcher of the month. again.i could go on and on. but no mention of "dusty this...," or "wrigley that..." or even "a simlulated whatever" -- 'tho that one's tempting.

I'm not saying you shouldn't have some fun with them, but remember, they're the one's w/ the monkey on their back now: 1908.

did you listen to the score last night? jeff joniac (sp) did a whole segment on the cubs. their callers were the ones who sounded sick.
and they're in pain.i was in a galyans (or dick's -- whatever it's called) and some dick in a cubs hat walked up to me out of the blue (ok, i'm wearing one of my WS champs hats) and just says "i hate the white sox."
i just said "you should. we just won the world series. you didn't."
then i just shrugged my shoulders like "what more is there to say?"
that was that.

even my friends who are lifelong cubs fans, who cheered for the sox last fall all said, "this is great. but i wish it was us."

so stand tall. don't let yourself get baited by these poor diseased mongrels. just smile, turn your back to them, then drop your pants and serenade them with "we are the champions" from your balloon knot.

ok, maybe just sing it.

I don't mind if I can't collect. Then I get to hold it over their heads forever:
"Hey, aren't you the guy who owes me $40 'cause he stupidly bet on the Cubs?"
:gulp:
