Kid: Mortal Kombat, on Sega Genesis, is the best video game ever.
Billy Madison: I disagree, it's a very good game, but i think Donkey Kong is the best game ever.
Kid: Donkey Kong sucks.
Billy Madison: You know something? YOU SUCK!

Seemed appropriate, considering the username.

This thread is missing a poll. I'd be real interested in the results. I'm guessing there would be a split vote between "The Cubs suck" and "The Cubs really, really suck".

Who is better in your opinion?

Hmmmm good question. Lets look at some records thru the years and maybe the numbers can shed some light.

Cubs since 1990. Zero 90-win seasons. Thats not really good.
SOX since 1990. 4 90-win seasons. 1 WS Championship. PRETTY GOOD.

Cubs since 1950. 3 90-win seasons. Thats pretty bad.
SOX since 1950. 13 90-win seasons. THATS VERY VERY GOOD.

CUBS = Very Bad Franchise
SOX = VERY VERY GOOD FRANCHISE

That was pretty easy huh?

I know you've posted these numbers quite a few times already, but I'm not tired of seeing them. I think they fly in the face of this popular notion that the Cubs and Sox have been equally bad over the years. Not to excuse the Sox failure to go all the way all those years before '05, but at least they've consistently made decent runs at the pennant over the years:

2005 - best record in AL, pennant, WS championship
2000 - best record in AL
'90, 93, 94 - 2nd best record in AL
'83 - best record in AL
'77 - 90 wins
'72 - 2nd best record in AL
'67 - in running for pennant until final weekend
'63, '64, '65 - 2nd best record in AL, average 96 wins per year.

See a pattern? '05 wasn't just a total fluke from a "bad" franchise - this team has made serious runs at the title on average about every 5 years or so going way back to the Go Go era.

As far as that other team? Only 90+ wins 3 times, 2nd best record or better in NL only twice since '45. That's not "bad luck" or "Cursed" or "heartbreak" - that's just sucking - and morons in Chicago continue to support it.

Here's another fun fact: Starting with the 1990 season, the Sox have finished no lower than third in their division. They are the ONLY team in all the majors that can make this claim. EVERY other team has finished 4th or lower at least once in the last 15 seasons.

Choosing 1990 as a starting date is no accident. The Braves finished 7th that season and then have had a somewhat impressive record in terms of the spot they finish in the division.

There's actually a spread sheet saved on the site somewhere which lists the comparative records year by year including post season success and total record.

It wasn't updated this season and might not have been updated last year either, I can't remember. I tried searching for it, but have to go to work and couldn't find the right combo of words to locate it.

If you want to try to find it, go to the home page, pull up any column and scroll to the bottom then start using the search function until you find it.

I'll be updating it soon because George likes to post it around the time the crosstown series come up and this year, it's going to be extra sweet to add that WS champs to the post season column...

Hmmm..that's a tough question. I'll have to think about it. A more important and relevant one would be: Who would win in a fight between Ponch & John vs. Bo & Luke Duke ?

And keep up his fantasy that the Cubs have had no 90 win seasons since
1990, when in fact they have had one. Apparently he hates the Trib
propaganda machine and their spewing of myths; but has decided to
adopt their methods: repeat a lie long enough and it becomes the truth.

Yeah, one with an asterisk I guess. It did take them 163 games to get exactly 90 in the magical Wild Card year.

They stumbled their way to 89 wins, but only because the Dusty Baker led Giants bumbled their way into a tie, then lost the "one-game playoff".
Regular Season 89 Wins.
1 game Playoff. 1 win.
Hangar18 does Not Recognize 1998 as a 90 win season.

Hey Donkey Kong, I have another idea for a poll, maybe you can start this when you come back;

What is better in your opinion? Attending a White Sox game on a beautiful 80 degree summer night or getting kicked in the nuts?

I would say this would break down pretty evenly.

I know it looks like a troll post, but it could easily be a young kid who just doesn't know anything about this site yet and how everything works. This board is MUCH different than a lot of others on the internet so it takes some time. Yes it was a stupid thread to start but give him a chance when he comes back, if he does.
