View Full Version : Carl at the Park, boo or cheer?

Another returning player from our World Champion Chicago White Sox returns to Sox Park tomorrow, crazy Carl.
I for one will cheer his first at bat. He did provide entertainment factor, after all... and remember the dinner tab he picked up for the team? That was cool of him.

I'll cheer all his at-bats. He was a big part bringing the World Series here and he needs to be thanked. Especially since he couldn't make it to the ring ceremony

That's what I would probably do. Just treat like an ordinary visiting player you neither love nor hate. Indifference!

He had a HUGE World Series Game 3 appearance in the 13th and 14th innings, and would have finished it off if weren't for a Uribe error. To me, he came through when we really needed him.

Right. I agree.
That's why I'm not going to boo the guy, because he did have a small part in helping us.
However, he did have a big part in hurting us too, so I won't cheer either.

Indifference.

I don't understand the hatred for Carl Everett.

He was a key part of our 2005 offense, and, moreover, he was nothing but a class act while wearing the White Sox uniform. Sure, the guy has said some controversial things. So boo him at the next political or biological convention you attend if you take issue with that.

But on the field, the Everett hate is irrational.

24 bombs and 87 RBIs isn't too shabby.

He also got, what I think is the key RBI of the season, in Detroit, helping us coast into Cleveland with nothing to play for. The team had lost the first two and was sleepwalking, in a 1-1 game, until he ripped an RBI triple to right center... then scored immedaitely after.

After that... well, you know.

Well, I'm sure the people that have voted they will boo him never once cheered during any of his 24 homers and 87 RBIs...so they aren't hypocrites at least.

Standing "O" for Carl! :supernana: :supernana:

Thank You, Carl!

I don't see any reason to boo him. How could you take him seriously? C'mon...

He was a clutch dude and helped us win it all. I'd probably give him a few claps just to honor that fact if anything. But mainly I mean business and just want to see the Sox win, so most likely I'd not do anything.

I don't understand how ppl wouldn't cheer for him for the same reason MarySwiss has posted. I don't agree with those who wouldn't cheer (at least for the first AB), but for those who boo, I take issue. How the hell would you boo a guy who played an integral part in keeping our offense breathing the first couple months of the season last year, and helped us win a WORLD SERIES?!?!?

We need to prove we have class and cheer a member of the team that was so huge in the first half of last season. He was the biggest Twinkie killer on the team and was huge for us for the most part last year. He also played a huge role in the clincher in DET with those 2 triples the last 2 games of the series. CHEER CARL EVERETT!!!!

First, I can't think of a good reason to boo Carl. So, if anything, I should be indifferent, rather than boo him.

Second, anyone who is on the White Sox team that brought that Championship to Chicago is deserving of a base level of respect in my world. For goodness sakes, I can see Jim McMahon and remember those FANTASTIC years with the Bears, instead of those years he played second fiddle to a certain quarterback on a team that plays on a bay of Lake Michigan that I would rather not name...

Third, the man doesn't believe in dinosaurs, and he is fully willing to admit it. Whether or not you agree with the guy, it's pretty darn cool for a guy to stick to his guns like that.

And that's my take on Carl.

i booed him when he was on the sox, and now, i'll ignore him. why? he's a dope. he's not "controversial" or "sticks to his guns" he's a dope, a hater, a backwards individual. and i'm not too keen on the stuff he said about the sox management once he was out of town. on the field, yeah, he did some good things, but everytime he opens his mouth he shows his true colors.
on the other hand, despite what he said about the club once he left town, i will heartily cheer frank thomas because for so long he WAS the franchise.

Say what you want about the guy. I dont give a damn about what he believes or said. While he was in a white sox uniform he busted his ass. He drove in big runs. Everyone says stupid things. Frank thomas as great as he was, put his foot in his mouth all the time. He left under better than thomas. Thomas should get a 5 minute ovation. Not as long for carl, but he should get a nice ovation. People forget so quickly. Yeah he bad mouthed the sox, but so did thomas. They brought this team a world title.

I would more than likely ignore him. But since I didn't get that option, I said I'd cheer him rather than boo him. However, I hope he goes 0-4 each game. :D:

Carl has said some stupid things since leaving the Sox but I think they were said out of sadness and disappointment because he was let go rather than out of anger and bitterness.
