Glad Dye is back in the lineup. Cintron as DH???

Looks like Ozzie pulled his "let me throw at a dartboard and see what sticks" lineup today.

Thome finally sitting...

Glad Dye is back in the lineup. Cintron as DH???I wonder if Ozzie didn't want Thome to have to put up with the booing again.

Why not DH Konerko and give Gload a start??

SOXPHILE
05-02-2006, 11:42 AM
I'm glad to see Dye back too. I was a little worried about the leg injury, but I guess he just needed a day off to rest it. I agree...Cintron at DH ? I was thinking they would have Rob M. start today in center for Anderson.

My immediate thought as well. I don't think Thome really needs any days off from his DH duties unless there is some injury/illness.

Maybe the Jnjuns will rest Hafner too.

Sabathia is a lefty.

CC Fat-assia is on the mound so I guess it's lefty-righty day today.

There's Ozzie doing the lefty/righty thing again.

All righties against Sabathia, a strong lefty.

Martinez hasn't thrown out a base stealer all year. I'd guess that Ozzie wants another potential base-stealer in the lineup. They pretty much embarrassed Martinez yesterday.

Sabathia is a lefty.

He started Widger against a righty 2 games ago, what difference does it make?

Sabathia doesn't scare me at all right now coming off the DL. If Buehrle's on, it doesn't really matter what the lineup is. And he was shaky in Seattle, so given Buehrle's track record I'd expect a strong outing from him.

I thought perhaps there was more of a matchup than simply lefty/rightie, but Thome has only 1 AB against Sabathia (an out), and Cintron has never faced Sabathia in a game that has counted. (Gload is 2 for 3 against Sabathia.)

Dye has hit Sabathia well (6/17 .353). Uribe, Konerko and Crede have not (5/24 .208, 5/37 .135, 2/16 .125). Of course Sabathia coming off the DL could be the largest factor.

Good thing Pods is not playing. I would not want him to steal 4 bases again. It would not be fair. Here's Ozzie, Hey Pods great game last night. I think you need a day off to kill your momentum. Hey Thome, I know you know this park well and are comfortable hitting here. So take the day off.

Gload has done well in the past against lefties, so I'm surprised Ozzie didn't give him a start regardless.

I think "Clown" Sabathia is going to be on a strict pitch count, and could very well be gone by the 6th inning, no matter how the game is going.

His legs are probably a little tired after 6,000 pick-off attempts last night. I kind of expected him to be sitting today.

Actually, C LEE got credit for that CS, so the original point stands...But I still don't see how you can credit a CS when he wasn't retired. Pitchers don't get credited with an out when a batter reaches on an error.

But the batter doesn't get credit for a hit either.

If you reach base on an error to open the game, you are still 0-1. Yet, no out was recorded.

If you reach base on an error to open the game, you are still 0-1. Yet, no out was recorded.Actually, you're 0-0. No credited AB. Logically, it should be the same here. No SB, but no CS, either.

Actually, you're 0-0. No credited AB. Logically, it should be the same here. No SB, but no CS, either.

If there is an error on the play, and it is determined that the error allowed the baserunner to be safe, it is ruled a caught stealing and an error. Case in point was game 5, 8th or 9th inning of the ALCS. Tad attempted to steal second. The second baseman dropped the ball when he Tad slid into second. The ruiling per the booth was caught stealing and error on second baseman. I have heard this happen before where Pods was in position to be picked off, an error allowed him to get back to first, and he was charged with a CS.

No, errors count as AB. I know this for a fact. Look it up...

Edit, Hey folks, this is NOT the game thread. Go to the proper one to discuss the in game play please...

its the second time in 3 days ozzie has put in most of the bench. i dont get it, its stupid. especially taking out pods when he's hot, and thome in his favorite park to hit in. i dont buy that whole lefty vs righty crap, its stupid. even hawk said yesterday if he was a switch hitter he would hit righty vs righties and lefty vs lefties

I'm wearing an Ozzie disguise today and hence the lineup. Actually, this is my biggest problem with Ozzie. No problem with letting a bench guy start a game, BUT WHY IS IT 3-4 IN THE SAME GAME?

Hey, do the Sox ever get to face a tough competitor's "B" lineup? I'm thinking Indians, Yankees, Red Sox, etc. Not being sarcastic here, just wondering if we tend to face a bunch of subs on other teams.

Our lineup really looks different when you take out Dye, Thome, AJ and Podsednik. Add the seemingly automatic outs for Uribe and Anderson and that's not a very impressive lineup at all.

Actually Mackowiak had 2 hits and Widger doubled, but they also had 3 LOB each. Plus 4 LOB for Uribe and 5 for our "DH" Cintron. Ouch.
