Ok since roger clemens can be resigned by the astros today, was just thinking if some way in hell kenny entertained roger to come to chicago, who would you drop from rotation or trade and who would go after in a trade? I would think definetly bullpen.

just a hypotheothical question that I found intersting

We already have a SP surplus. There is no way we need a $20m 7th Starter

I second that thought.

I'm sure I'm in the minority, but I think Clemens would get ripped if he returned to the AL. He wasn't exactly lights out when he was with the Yankees, the guy is a fossil, and an injury waiting to happen. The team that signs him is going to be spending a lot of money for a huge question mark IMO.

Could we trade him for a new Bears GM?

Clemens is the type of guy needed by a team that only has about 2 starters. We have 6. They are all going to be in baseball for a few more years and they are all awesome. We have the best record in baseball and will win the World Series regardless of whose team Clemens in on.

No one is saying the Sox need or want him, ust a hypothetical situation the thread starter thought of. No reason to jump on it so quick.

At this point in his career, two words to describe Roger Clemens pitching in the AL... BATTING PRACTICE.

I agree with you 100%.

I mean he went to Texas, so he knows what good college football is all about. If he can play corner, tight end or return kicks, I'm all for the Bears signing him.

The next guy to enter the Sox' rotation shouldn't be Clemens, rather, some big kid who wears No. 55 and beat Boston on Labor Day last year IIRC at Fenway.

Thanks and Go Sox!!

Perhaps we could challenge Roger by offering him the lefty bullpen slot?

Ill play the hypothetical game since alot of people on this board dont like to. I would trade either garcia or garland. Think you would get a little more for garland because he is locked up for 3 more years

Suppose, hypothetically, the Sox re-acquired Willie Harris. Would you drop Anderson or Iguchi from the lineup?

Even if we could use him I don't think I'd want him after seeing him break down in the WS like he did. He'd be a rent-a player and with all our guys locked up through 2007 I wouldn't trade any of them for a short term guy who'd command so much money. If I was a Cub fan though I'd be screaming from the rooftops that they need to make him an offer he can't refuse. Perfect timing for them with their staff in shambles.

Hmmmm, indeed. I see that offer going something like this...

McPhail: "Roger, would you like to play with anyone but us?"

Clemens: "Yes."

C'mon! Don't you know that everybody wants to play for the Cubs?

Meh. I'm sure Clemens would still be fantastic, but we've got plenty of starting pitching, we already have the fourth highest payroll in the league, and Roger Clemens is a complete jerk.

Is there an avatar for "90% of the responses to this thread are an embarrassment"? In light of this thread, one should definitley exist, at least hypothetically.

A-freaking-men. Roger Clemens can go hold the Astros, Rangers, Red Sox and Yankees hostage, rob them at the pace of $5 million a month, and then have another classic craptacular post-season.

I'd be curious how you plan to get around Garland's no-trade clause.

I think he should sign with the Cubs for about 16 million for this year, so he can injure himself and retire.

Hypothetically speaking...

I could not, would not in a tree. Not in a car...

You dont' trade away good starting pitching. I'll take all 6 of our SP over Clemens.

I nominate the Yanks. They could use another aging arm on the mound.

Must be a slow news day if we're spending all this time on a hypothetical situation that has no chance of happening (nor should it)
