From the Sun Times:

Manager Ozzie Guillen was asked about the status of injured reliever Dustin Hermanson (back), who remains in Arizona for extended spring training. "I have a rule with my team,'' Guillen said. "If you are not on my 25-man roster, I care less what you do. When you put on a uniform, then you are my boy. I have too much to worry about with my club.''

Seems kind of harsh, but I'm sure it was taken out of context a bit? Although, I have heard him say this before. Regardless of the quote, I'm pretty sure he gets updates on Dustin and cares about his progression so who cares what these dudes write in the paper.

I'm sure Dustin isn't worried about it.

Translation: I have enough to do worrying about guys on the 25-man roster.

Ummm no it wasn't 'taken out of context.'

Ozzie said the same thing last year about Thomas and Posednik.

Unfortunately Dustin's done...he's not coming back.

Same with Gload last year.

He tells it like it is, that's for sure.

I love it :gulp:..... but damn do I feel terrible for Dustin. He was unbelievable last year. A healthy Hermanson in our pen this year would've made things too easy.

Yep. Ozzie's got worry about the guys he has now, not guys who are injured.

I think Lip's right, Hermanson is done. Even if he is 100% (highly unlikely), where do you put him? I think the 'pen is pretty set right now, especially since our starters are likely to go deep into games.

If Hermie is healthy, we have room for him. I'd feel a whole lot comfortable with him than I do with Logan.

Yeah, but Logan is a lefty. Cotts and McCarthy are righties like Dustin. McCarthy is going to have trouble getting enough work as it is...

I read that as Ozzie saying 'talk to me about this game and the guys who are suited up and on the field, not about something or someone who has nothing to do with the outcome of this game.' Ozzie's ability to stay in the moment is one of his best attributes as a manager, IMO.

In the Playboy interview, he said that he had all pictures of former Sox players taken down in the Arizona clubhouse. He said "But this year I told Jerry Reinsdorf that I didn't want any pictures in the spring-training clubhouse in Tucson of ****ing former players. **** the former players. I want the guys who are going to help this team win. Get Ordonez and Frank Thomas and all those guys out of the pictures in Tucson and bring in new ones. Get rid of all that bull****."

You know he's not dissing former Sox players (well, maybe one or two) -- but he's saying that the story is here, now, these guys and this game. The rest is all just media jabber. And we know how he views the media: "If people on the radio were so smart, they'd be in the g*ddamn dugout with me."

Mod Note: Take your week off to learn about the language filter.

Yeah, but Logan is a lefty.

if you can't get anybody out, it doesn't matter if your right handed or left

Thats like saying is Ozzie wondering what arnie munoz is throwing or how owens is batting. He has no need to keep check on these guys cuz he's not their coach. Should an injury to the sox occur and a call up is needed, then he can check the statline. Why should Ozzie be concerned about Hermanson?

I seem to recall him also saying the same thing about Maggs and Big Frank in '04...

i don't think DH will be back; however, i don't think any rational person would turn down calling him back up and sending logan down if he did come back. we had two lefties in the pen last year: Marte and Thorton. If logan leaves we have two again... I'm pretty sure we could survive..
