Way to go, boys, picking up where you left off last October.

Had to crack up at the guy getting kicked out of the park with his "SOX CHEAT" sign, too. Still bitter over Josh's blunder?

The tough guy had to be restrained and kicked out by an usher who could have been no younger than 90 years old.

Good CF tonight.

Cotts was impressive.

JD had a great game.

Thome not so much.

That was one of the best performaces I've seen by JD! Not only did he have it offensively, but he made a few GREAT plays in the field as well! How 'bout THAT!

Oh, and the SOX just kicked your ass in last year's ALCS, Halo fans!

Winnin 8-5 while Thome goes 0-5 with 4 K's. I'll take it. I think Brian Anderson is starting to get some good at bats.

The Sox took 7BB and scored 8 runs with Thome doing absolutely nothing tonight. Thats a good sign.

Freddy was solid, good enough. McCarthy was a little shaky but Cotts pitched well, hopefully he's coming around.

Freddy had me worried with all the lead-off walks but he kept his cool and didn't give up a big inning. Good game by JD, Pods, and Guch and a nice pitching performance by Cotts.

Hopefully, Thome gets back in the groove tomorrow.

Yes, but we're not the first.

Cincinatti, AKA NL World Series contender, beat us to it.

Oh well, there's always next year. :(:

Great win today, and 8 runs with Thome going 0-5. Freddy .... Meh. Jury's still out. But Cotts did a great job, and what can be said about Dye. Man's good.

Get em tomorrow again :gulp:

The tough guy had to be restrained and kicked out by an usher who could have been no younger than 90 years old.

I have Extra Innings, and had to endure the Angels broadcast tonite (actually, they had alot of great things to say about our club), who failed to show that guy, his sign, and his removal.

Awesome game, great way to get this series started!

JD...YES!

I was at the game tonight. Angel fans were OK and not too rude, although AJ was booed each time he came to the plate.

Anderson did a good job getting to the double and quickly throwing the ball in. He looks very fast out there. Now if he can get some hits going....

Dye made a couple of great plays. Thome looked awful -- struck out 4 times! I hope he is not cooling off.

I had to leave early since my kids were with me, but it was nice to see the Sox jump out in front early. That was great since Freddy seemed to start off a bit shaky.

Dye made a couple of great plays. Thome looked awful -- struck out 4 times! I hope he is not cooling off. Both Thome and Dye are very streaky hitters. If we can keep them going like they are now, with one hot when the other cools off, things will be just fine.

Yes, many Angels fans still shout "Cheater!" when AJ comes to the plate. However, the Angels fan sitting next to me at the game tonight did acknowledge that the whole thing was Josh Paul's fault. At least they're not all dumb.

Of course, 2 beach balls made their way onto the field. That is 2 too many. Pop 'em!

After Pods got picked off first by Molina, Thome struck out, and the Angels took the lead with Guerrero's two run blast, all the MO was with them. I was impressed when with two outs the Sox came right back to score five runs and reclaim control of the game.

Is anyone else starting to think that we have one hell of an offense? I knew that we'd be better because of Thome, but it seems like the rest of our batters look much more comfortable at the plate this year. Last season, it seemed like almost every game was a squeeze 'em out, heart-wrenching, one run affair. This summer, I think that the Sox are gonna lay some serious thumpings on other teams.

Tonight should be a whale of a pitching matchup with Contreras and Escobar. Here's hoping that the bats stay hot. I do have this feeling that Thome will bounce back and crush one out of the park.
GO SOX!!!

Huh? He's had two season's in his career with 180+ (182 and 185) K's. Two other times he had 171 and the rest were below 150. He K's a lot, but not that much.

Yes, many Angels fans still shout "Cheater!" when AJ comes to the plate.

There was some lady at Spring Training who kept yelling stuff like that - finally I got tired of it and asked her "What exactly did the Angels bat in that series? .100? .150? Maybe that's the real reason they lost!"

I'm not sure she understood my point.

Hardly call it cheating. If they *really* want to blame someone, blame the men in blue.

They can cry all they want, nothing and no one was going to stop the Sox from winning the World Series last year!!!

Can't wait till the boys come home, staying up late during the week is hard

In Thome's first two at bats, he had a very noticeable hitch. He lowered, and then raised his hands very quickly at the beginning of his swing. I had never noticed that hitch in his swing prior to this game. If it is not his normal swing, let's hope that he corrects it quickly. He certainly wasn't on any pitches tonight. Did anyone else notice this hitch?

In Thome's first two at bats, he had a very noticeable hitch. He lowered, and then raised his hands very quickly at the beginning of his swing. Can you further explain what you mean? Like he was choking up on the bat before he swung? or the angle he was swinging? not quite sure what you mean

Lillian
04-29-2006, 09:52 AM
Here is a text book defintion of a hitch:
If you have a hitch, you are dropping your hands just before you swing. A hitch is okay, as long as you can get your hands in good hitting position before the ball arrives
Batters that have a "hitch" in their swing often have difficulty hitting the fastball. They often get "jammed" and are often late on medium speed pitches. The batter is not "triggering" correctly. The batter is dropping the hands before taking them to the "power position" or what is often called the "launch position". This lowering of the hands causes the batter to be late to the strike zone.
Remedy: Take the hands slightly up and then back rather than dropping them.

Did you really expect him to hit .350 with 90 HRs this year?

hawkjt
04-29-2006, 10:35 AM
I would rather Thome strike out than hit into a dp. He is all or nothing and has been all a lot more than nothing.

I like that ozzie left cotts in in the ninth. He found his arm slot and was throwing strikes.

I do think we need to be ready for McCarthy, logan, cotts ect to struggle with control early in the year with the lack of work. Unavoidable really and the good news is that they will still be strong late into october and by then will be sharp also.

Freddie seems to have nothing out there but is showing me he just knows how to pitch and win. And when he reaches back he came at 92mph. I think he is just working into the season at his own pace and by late summer will be throwing 92-93 regularly.

Jermaine is reminding me of Dave Winfield these days as he shows more power late in his career. He has hit three monster homers this week. Hope his ribs are ok after that great catch.

Jose needs to be good today as escobar is their best hurler and obviously their bullpen can shut us down. I thought those two guys stranded at third with less than two out would come back to haunt us. Need to get em in ,sox.

Win tonite and tomorrow will be gravy. Then off to cleveland to face westbrook and byrd. nothing easy.

If we sweep the Angels, we'll match the 17-7 April we had last year.

Dye absolutely murdered that ball he hit out to center field.

I hate Jeff Weaver. It's always nice to whack him around.

He looked better once he got loose and hit his stride in the last few innings before being taken out after a shaky 6th. Coop is definitely on to something with the get him sweaty earlier idea. They need to get Freddy looser to start the game.

Dye had a great defensive game, saved at least the 3 runs we won by. The throw to the ghost first baseman not withstanding...

Edit: Oh and how about Crede with the inside out swing on an 0-2 count to slap the ball to right and get the 5-run inning going?

Great win. Little worried because I think that's McCarthy's 2nd suspect apperance. Love the kid and his talent, just wanna send him some good vibes to turn it around a little bit.

When they come here, maybe we should boo each player and chant "bad hitter."

I hadn't heard anything about this, but the Cubune reports that Matt Thornton has been sidelined with back spasms:

Thornton, however, has been sidelined since last Saturday because of back spasms that "paralyzed me," Thornton said.

Agreed. Playing .500 on the road is a recipe to success. Especially on the West Coast.
