I've noticed several posters mis-spelling the surname of the Sox Pitcher who wears uniform no. 37.

The guy we acquired from Seattle in the Borchard deal is called:

Matt Thornton (http://chicago.whitesox.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/team/player.jsp?player_id=407819).

Please note the presence of an 'n' between the 'r' and the second 't'.

Thankyou, that is all.
Now back to your regularly-scheduled Clubhouse Threads, i.e. those not started by pedantic foreign schmucks...

I wonder if Matt could be the next Mark Burly?

You must have the "n" in a thorn ton.

4 : something that causes distress or irritation -- often used in the phrase thorn in one's side

The spelling errors are encouraged by the tendency to pronounce the name "THOR-tn".

Just remember where the big quarry is in the south suburbs - Thornton.

Or maybe we can just call him Matt South Holland...

Funny this topic is going this way my wife is a teacher and the way she remembers names are cute little sayings or word association and for

Pods = Piss said Nick
the gooch = goochy goochy goo

I laughed my behind off when she first told me these but I credit here for taking interest in one of my favorite things in the world :D:

That word association works really well but I've never been all that good at it for some reason. I do remember my psychology teacher's name was Tony because I always thought of Tony the Tiger. No idea what his last name was though... :(:

For some reason there are a few actors who I always recognize them and remember a few movies they were in but then can't remember their names.

I'm usually pretty particular about my spelling. I'll use spell check or look up a player's name if I'm not sure before making the post. I'll also go back and edit something if I notice it afterwards.

Grammar and punctuation I just do the best I can. That way I don't look like a complete moron.

Usually I just look like a partial moron... :D:

If you could post another announcement about the use of the word "resign" when referring to Sox players who are going to sign a new contract, that would be great.

Re-sign= sign a new contract
Resign = quit

Thanks much.
