Mercy that was a win. JV looks great and our hitting looks even better. Steals, HRs, and more HRs.

Well I guess the first game can be blamed on the west coast layover and jet-lag.

I hate to see the pitching staff give up those kinds of runs in garbage time, but it is a nice thing to be whining about.

Good thing Safeco is a pitcher's park!

Great team effort and we even got a save in an 11 run win...Yeah, congrats to Boone Logan on getting his first save - one of the cheapest EVER. :D:

"Alright, Boone - just stop the Mariners from scoring 10 runs in these next few innings..."

Logan gets a Save for that?

Logan gets a Save for that?

Any time a pitcher pitches the final three innings and the team wins they get a save regardless of the run differential.

Logan gets a Save for that?

3 IP to end a game is an automatic save.

EDIT: Well, if they win, of course....

3 IP to end a game is an automatic save. The rule says you have to pitch "effectively" for three innings to end a game. I would suppose if you gave up ten runs in three innings, the official scorer might decide to not award a save.

Boone should have gained a lot of valuable experience tonight.
He comes in with 2 on, hits a batter then walks in a run then retires the next 3 batters...nice recovery. No pressure or anything, but he pitched out of a jam. Good show.

All I was wondering at the end was "where's Matt Thornton?"

What an offensive display, at Safeco no less! Nobody's mentioned Vazquez, who did a hell of a job and probably should've left with a scoreless game had Ozzie kept his thinking cap on (9-0, 93 pitches heading into the 7th...), but nevertheless he had a great outing. Boone Logan hopefully will learn that throwing strikes with his delivery should be enough to get most lefties out. Go Sox!

Horrible when he first came in (HBP, BB, couldn't find the plate) but settled down once he started throwing strikes.

Great game. Hopefully the Sox take the rubber match tomorrow.
I never critique Ozzie, but I don't know why Javy came out for the 7th. That was a dumb decision. He pitched great, and should have left the game with a shutout, having thrown 93 pitches. Seeing as Ozzie said over the weekend that he wanted to keep the starters around 100-105 pitches during the first half of the season, it is even more baffling. No big deal, but Javier deserved to leave with the shutout, and the game was in the bag, anyway.
Either way, it was good to see Boone settle down after the first few batters. We are not going to be able to judge him for a while. As Hawk and DJ said, he was throwing nothing but strikes in ST, but he was throwing all the time, sometimes three days in a row. With our rotation, he will be lucky to get into two games a week. If he is going to succeed with this team, he is going to have to learn to deal with long layoffs.

Last year we started 16-4, and then 24-7. This year we are 14-6. The difference is that this year we were 1-4. Since that point, we are 13-2. That'll work. Were the Sox 13-2 over any stretch of the regular season last year? They were 16-1 from the very end of the regular season through the post-season, but I don't think they were ever 13-2 during the season.

Well, oz left should have never brought garland out for the 8th last nite either. I guess he is trying to build arm strength or something but to me you ease them into those long outings in April.

I really felt for Javy cuz you knew he felt like he had a better chance of avoiding those two earned runs scoring than Boone would and then boone just walks one in- has to drive a starter a little nutz.

Once Boone found his arm slot he was fine and hopefully he can stay there now.

Has there ever been a more impressive homer nite?
Paulies was pedestrian and it was pretty deep. Joes was a laser, then JD's first one to right was worthy of Hawks admiration. The strength of his wrists on that liner was big-time. Then of course Gooch's bomb to straight away center was kind of shocking. What was the footage of JD's second blast?

Gotta come out tomorrow nite and get the rubber game. This warm weather out west might just keep those bats hot. Washburn gives us trouble and the angels pitchers are hot right now.

I don't think Ozzie wants to set the standard of any of his starting five getting the luxury of only pitching six innings no matter what the score is. Regardless, Boone did a good job once he settled in. His stats overall are not looking quite nearly as dismal as one might expect.

Great game! I was struggling to stay awake, but I made it through. These early wakeups are killers. Nice job by Vasquez, the bats were ALIVE! How about Crede and JD's Line drive homeruns especially in that park. Gotta get them tonight. Go Sox!!

I watched the game until midnight, and went to bed with a smile on my face, knowing that the Sox were on fire. I mean, geez, 13-3? Awesome. The whole team is clicking and playing superbly. They're going to lose the occasional game, but I do think that this team is much more fun to watch than last year's (so far).

Again, great game, great HRs, and here's to taking the rubber match today.

That was like a Nintendo game.

Konerko's, Iguchi's and especially Dye's home runs were all really impressive. You rarely see a ball that low and that hard go out in a big park like that. I don't even think the ball left the screen even at its peak. :D:

Iguchi's was about 420 to dead center. Konerko's was pure muscle, that was a bomb as well, and high too. It looks fishy the way these balls are flying out.

There seemed to be a huge diff in how the ball was carrying last nite vs the nite before. Maybe it was just Moyer throwing dead fish up there but I thought there was seveal balls that would go out on monday. Last nite either they used the ''hot '' balls or the air was warmer or something.

How much fun were the three guys in the afro wigs having!!

Reviewing the tape this morning...have to say Logan looks way overmatched right now....he's gripping the ball so tightly he's choking it from stress.

I hope Ozzie only uses him in these type situations. He's not ready for situations where the game is on the line yet.

It's better for him and for the team if he is sparingly used until he can get his feet on the ground.

And if he can't it'll be time to start working the phone in June.

I took a liking to Crede's the best myself. That looked like a line-drive and didn't even appear like it would go out. Even Hawk was surprised when it got out of the ballpark. Crede's become one of our best hitters!
