This was a very good weekend for the SOX on the field. Off the field is another question. The Cubs dominated the airwaves, print and otherwise with the meteoric Greg Maddux being hailed as a hero for his 4-0 start. The media has continued its Weeping, Wailing, Gnashing Of Teeth, Woe Is Us coverage of Derrek Lee (yes, a Lee Watch graphic was started on Saturday!!!!!) Mike "Yellow" Kiley has shifted into overdrive GM mode, openly Tampering on behalf of the Cubs for Arizonas Tony Clark, or KC's Mike Sweeney. Unbelievably, the Pirates Craig Wilson is also on the Cubs wishlist. Cubs are shopping in the poor neighborhoods again we see. Mike Kiley has also stepped into PR mode trying to cover Dusty's double-switch snafu over the weekend. Coverage of the Cub garage sale bordered on Infomercial, as if they were the first team to ever do that.

Despite Winning the World Series in 2005, and being only the 5th team in history to lead from wire to wire and win it all, the White Sox inexplicably find themselves lagging in media coverage Terribly to a team that finished in 4th place last year, and has only 3 90-win seasons since 1950!!!!!!

Chicago Tribune:
17 cub stories
12 sox stories
Chicago SunTimes:
16 cub stories
11 sox stories
Standings as of April 24th, 2006
Priviledged, Media Beloved, 4th Place in 2005, Cubs 323
Underdog, Media Ignored, WS Champs in 2005 SOX 285

Keep up the good work. I saw the garage sale information as well. The Sox do this several times a year, for charity, and get zero coverage for it.

I love this stuff. Keep up the good work. Will Rick Telander ever write a column on the Sox? I think it has been a long time since he has written anything on the Sox.

The Pirates did have Craig Wilson on the block, from what I read, but not after Sean Casey's injury. Oh wait, only the Cubs have injuries.

:hijacked:

Dusty blew a double switch? Didn't he do that before?

I don't think he blew a double switch (THIS time), but I heard that he made THREE double switches and by the 5th inning his #3 hitter was out of the game. I think Levineline was talking about that because he was saying how great it was that the Cubs have SEVEN relievers and in the next breath defended Dusty by saying double-switches are needed when you're short on relief pitchers. I turned the radio off after that pearl of wisdom.

How many double-switches are allowed anyway in a game? I think at one time you were allowed one.:?:

What was most telling, was flubby fans complaining about the doubleswitch all weekend, but the SunTimes and Trib both openly covering for Dusty.
Yellow Kiley in the ST went out of his way to point out the bullpen situation as the reason, and the Trib went with the Cub-players-mad-about-double-switch-because-theyre-competitive-isnt-that-cool .............

I think AM 670 and 1000 discuss the Sox more than the Cubs. Obviously the TV and print media are a different story.

Nice work, Hangar.

Hangar, I can't believe you didn't mention/catch the little barb in the Trib on Saturday's paper. The Sox cover story started with a sentence like "the Sox have been winning, but it's not like they've been playing the '27 Yankees". They have been dominating everybody and aside from KC have been playing some very good teams. They couldn't start the cover story with Buehrle's masterful performance or our finally beating Santana, and about 5 other better angles. Had to throw that one in there to preface how well the Sox are playing didn't he?

Yeah, his article today was just more Cubbie-hearbreak drivel.

I'm sick and tired of how the Cubs and their mediot lovers make it sound like they're the only team that suffered an injury. Funny how their hearts didn't break when Maggs and Frank had season ending injuries at the same time. What about when Ozzie was lost for just about the whole year in '92?

I'm not saying I want that drivel written about the Sox, but the point is all teams suffer devastating injuries.
