Another great move by the greatest general manager in all of professional sports. No matter how Thornton turns out, he didn't lose this deal either.

Just watch. The Cubs will sign him, and the Cubune will proclaim him to be the heir apparent to Sammy Sosa, which actually has some truth to it when you consider that Borchard strikes out just about as often as the corked one did.

Leave the man alone.

He still deserves a decent second chance with a middling team. I never thought much of Hargrove as a player or now as a manager, and if he prefers Willie Bloomquist then he's just showing himself to be a mediocre manager.

Borchard will catch on somewhere in need of another outfielder.

I say we claim him off waivers. He can take Blakely's spot in LF down at Charlotte :D:

I could see the Sox signing him to a minor league contract, but it would be better for Borchard to go to a team that gives him a chance to play.

He'll be a Marlin in a few days. They showed interest in him in the offseason, they need power, and they have three OF right now batting under .215. If not them some other lousy team will give him a roster spot. With Jim Bowden's constant desire for toolsy players I wouldn't be shocked to see him in a Nationals uniform either.

I never really understood why the Mariners traded for him in the first place since they had such a loaded OF situation. I had noticed that Petagine had been getting most of the pinch hitting situations and bloomquist was getting time in CF for the mariners so I figured this day was coming. Hargrove just didn't like his long swing.

He's not coming back to the White Sox org.

The reason the M's preferred to keep Willie Bloomquist over Joe is because of Willie's versitility. Last year Willie played every position but Pitcher and Catcher and was actually listed as a back up catcher for a short time. I hope that Joe clears waivers, though I doubt he will. He wasn't given much of a chance here.

SEATTLE (AP) -- The Seattle Mariners (http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/teams/sea/) designated outfielder Joe Borchard (http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/players/6849/) for assignment...

Seattle has 10 days to trade, release or assign Borchard to the minor leagues. The 27-year-old ... appeared in only six of the Mariners' first 19 games, with two starts in center field. He was 2-for-9.

This would be a great waiver pickup!

So we won't have to worry about him swinging a revenge stick over the next few days.

They're bringing up a 12th pitcher. Borchard on waivers for 72 hours, and then would go to AAA Tacoma.
