Bob Sheppard is a baseball icon and it is something to hear his voice boom over "Yankee Stadium" He refuses to comment on his age but imdb.com says he was born in 1910. What is known is that he graduated from St. John's in 1932!!!!

A case could be made that he has seen more MLB games than anybody alive in 2006. When he started, Joe DiMaggio was in the lineup :o:

SHEPPARD DUE BACK: Public address announcer Bob Sheppard is expected back for tonight's game. Sheppard missed the Yanks' first series - the first home opener he wasn't at since 1950 - after throwing out his hip at home on Long Island.

I don't see what's so special about him. Maybe 20 years ago he was The Voice of God (blaspheme Yankees!) But now he's some Currato Soprano stand-in wheezing the line-up into the mic.

Gene Honda, now there's a voice.

Not arguing that. Sometimes you just have to stand down.....

Look at Nancy Faust. She knows she's a fan favorite, but she knows that she doesn't have much time left piping tunes into the Cell.

Because he's seen a lot of baseball games???? Pay me, hell just give me a free ticket and I'll go to any baseball game in the area you want for as many years as you want.

I met Sheppard once some 15 years ago. Very polite man.

Obviously Steinbrener wants him there ( George has been known to fire people )

Trust me you hear the woman at ATT Park, suddenly Sheppard sounds much better

Have you heard his backup when he was out sick? I'm sure he was asked to do it but he sounded very close to him, it was actually kind of weird.

Dan Patrick did a funny bit of what it's like for him at a restaurant. "I'll take...number 5..."

The guy has one of the most recognizable voices in sports history. It has nothing to do with longevity.

Sheppard rules. He does Giants games as well, and did them when they played at the Stadium even. crazy what he's seen over his lifetime. :o:

Dayum, if I'm still around at 95, not in diapers and have half a brain left (unlikely :gulp: ), I'll be so happy I wouldn't even mind going to Wrigley, let alone Yankee Stadium.

Good for him.

In my case, it's "how I pay my mortgage." I listen to 'em closely... and Sheppard's got a very distinctive voice. Glad to see him back.
