cool stat/i'm procrastinating from writing my thesis...

according to baseball almanac (http://www.baseball-almanac.com/recbooks/rb_runs1.shtml), billy hamilton set the record for most consecutive games with at least one run scored, from july to august 1894, with 24. kenny lofton tied red rolfe's AL record with 18 consecutive games with a run scored in 2000.

going into this evening's game, mr. incredible has scored at least one run in every game this season (15), which ties the record for the most consecutive runs scored from the beginning of a season (according to cbs sportsline) (http://cbs.sportsline.com/mlb/players/playerpage/8127)

can anyone dig up thome's lifetime stats against santana, radke, and silva? how has he fared against them in the past? anyone think he'll tie kenny/rolfe's AL record on sunday? did i just jinx him?

Well HERE ARE THE NUMBERS AGAINST RADKE, SILVA, AND SANTANA (http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/players/bvsp?playerId=2604) to start. He flat own PWNS Silva (the few times they have met, anyway).

I think he's got a great shot.

<Let's hope you didn't jinx'em! :wink: >

the only sample size that's convincing is radke's.

True, but c'mon - Be more optimistic. He's been on base against all of them, even if there isn't 50 or 60 meetings with Santana and Silva.

OPS looks good for being able to score. Look at it that way.

I am inclined to believe the record is secondary to winning. Not that Thome -- the best hitter for average and power on the team -- would give himself up by bunting a runner over in any situation. And if he hits a sacrifice fly, he's probably swinging for the fences.

But what I noticed from last night's game was Thome coming out for a pinch runner in the 8th. He had already scored his run while driving in both runs the Sox had scored at that point of the game, but had he not scored a run at that point in the game, Ozzie still probably would have put in a runner.
