Why do Friday home games start at 7:35 instead of 7:05? Solar flares or something? :?:

on the radio last week i heard that they are testing it out this year to see if the extra half hour allows more business people/people with jobs that run late come out to the park on friday nights. i heard this on the score's postgame show.

EDIT: It makes sense that this would only apply on friday nights, because by the same logic, a 7:30 start makes the game last longer and most business people have to wake up early the next day. except saturday.

Good question. I believe it must have something to do with the Dan Ryan construction and the fact that they expect a few more people there on Fridays, as oppossed to Wednesdays or Thursdays for example.

With the construction going on, I would guess 7:35 p.m. would be a better time for night games, particularly on Friday. When I was a kid, the Sox, and most baseball teams, started their night games at 8 p.m.

That's right. On a Friday, they give you more time to get to the park. It means you're getting home later, but it doesn't matter for most because it's Friday. During the week, the games are a half hour earlier for workers and children...don't want to keep them up too late.

I love it- getting to the park from the northwest suburbs (where I work) is a nightmare. Friday evening traffic is much worse than any other weeknight.

The later start time makes sense to me for Fridays- it Friday night after all!

Besides, the destr- er, construction on the Dan Ryan is also a factor.

I love it! It gives us downtown folk taking the train to the game and extra half hour at Friday happy hour!
Tonight, it's Rivers outside at the Merc. :gulp:

Hey Fabs, if you're going to tout being from NEAL Cotts' Neighborhood at least spell his name right.

Went to the game on 4/14 and the traffic from Elmhurst was almost nothing. Don't know if it was the extra half hour or that it was Good Friday.

That's still not as bad as busting out some obscure Star Trek Voyager reference, you know, as if you needed to offer up more proof of your social marginality...

I appreciate the later start. I'm leaving U of I with the white sox nation group at around 430. If the game started at 7, we'd be pushing seeing the first pitch with the slow bus ride and traffic

Good luck coming inbound on the Dan Ryan on a Friday night!

Tonight's game definitely needs to be a 7:35 start because if it was 7:05 and anyone arrived late, with Buehrle/Santana the game would be already more than half over
