Julio Franco became the oldest player to hit a homer last night; he is 47.

Story (http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/recap?gameId=260420125).

Could not happen to a better guy, he was a cult hero in Altanta for years. This story just makes me want to hit the gym all that more. Do you think that he will hit one at 50?

I thought he was at the end of his career 11+ years ago when he was with the Sox.

He might be 50 already. I thought they really were not sure of his age?

Let's see now:

Julio Franco, age 47: 2 HR's in one game

Barry Bonds, age 41: 0 HR's in 2006

Who's laughing now? :redneck

Amazing. Hope Julio gets to keep going.

Fun fact: Julio Franco was the runner up for AL Rookie of the Year in
1983. Winner: Ron Kittle.

I remember, he was a SS back then with CLE. I was a freshman in High School. He was never much defensively but he sure could hit.

When he was with the Sox in 1994, Thomas/Franco reminded me of Thome/Konerko today. He had a career year in 94 which would have been a monster year had they played the entire season.

1994 was his best season. Hit 20 HR's and 98 RBIs in 112 games! What happened in 1995? Didn't he play in Japan that season?

He's actually been in a full season for 17 years. In 1995 Franco and DJ signed in Japan due to uncertainty of the 1995 season being played.
