The hottest team in college baseball is Notre Dame, currently ranked 18th in the country. They were previously unranked. The Irish have won 19 straight games and possess a 29-8 (11-1 Big East) record. They'll be hosting Rutgers this weekend, and I'll be on hand for Notre Dame's game against Purdue on Tuesday.

Meanwhile on Friday night, I'll be down in Champaign as Illinois hosts Iowa.

IPFW had 2 hits in tonight's game, one being a 3 run homer that looks like it might do in ND. The Irish prevailed in extra innings 4-3.

Nice to see some quality college baseball played up North.

That's a great streak, but that league that they play in is beyond horrible.

They're usually the best midwest/northeast team.....maybe they'll do something in post season this year.

How do they play in this weather? Do they play a bunch of early season tournaments down South?

Meanwhile, my LSU Tigers are stinking up the joint relatively speaking. 26-13 (6-9) #18 nationally.

I expect MUCH better

Both teams in off years, still 10,000 in Zephyr field and a mighty pleasant outcome with a 12-5 Wave win.

Meanwhile, my Northwestern Wildcats are a disappointing 12-20 overall yet hold FIRST PLACE (!) in the Big Ten standings at 9-3. Michigan is one game out at 8-4. Last weekend, coach and Sox fan Paul Stevens' 'Cats swept Illinois in a four game series down in Champaign.

Down in Tucson, my Arizona Wildcats are a young team and it shows with their 15-19 (3-6 Pac 10) record. UA lost a lot of players to the MLB draft last season, but coach Andy Lopez's Wildcats recently beat the dreaded Arizona State in a non-conference game at Chase Field.

The Big 10's insufferable whining about how unfair life is for their programs with $50mill athletic budgets, convinced the NCAA to move the baseball season back a couple of weeks and to make some other changes in the name of fairness; we'll see if it helps.

Do you mean a former Sox draft pick? If he is playing in college, he cannot be a Sox prospect.

The Irish perennially have a strong team, and Eck Stadium is a great venue for college baseball. It's unfortunate that they haven't gotten to Omaha, but you never know...

Notre Dame got to the College World Series a few years ago. IIRC, they were an early double eliminated exit.

Meanwhile, the Irish win streak is now at 20 per ND's 11-2 win (http://und.cstv.com/sports/m-basebl/recaps/042206aaa.html) over Rutgers. I will be on hand Tuesday night when ND hosts the Purdue Boilermakers in an ESPNU televised game.

Tonight, I was at Illinois Field in Champaign where I witnessed the first six innings of the Illini's contest against Iowa. I left after the 6th when Illinois had an 11-1 lead. They would go on to a 12-3 win (http://fightingillini.cstv.com/sports/m-basebl/recaps/042106aaa.html).

Finally, there is a first place tie in the Big Ten standings as Northwestern fell (http://nusports.cstv.com/sports/m-basebl/recaps/042106aab.html) big time to Penn State at Rocky Miller Park, 12-1. Michigan beat the Boilers today pulling them into a 9-4 first place tie with the 'Cats.

Notre Dame was in the College World Series in 2002. I had just graduated from ND that May and was a few weeks away from moving out here to the DC area. So my Dad and I made the trip to Omaha to see them play. ND was 1-2, with the one win coming in a dramatic 9th inning comeback to eliminate Rice.

It was a great experience... definitely something all baseball fans should go see at least once.

I'd love to see the Irish make it back this season, but I'll just wait and see how things play out. I know the Big East is not a great baseball conference, but what ND is doing is quite remarkable. It would be great to host a regional. With their starting pitching, I wouldn't bet against them.

The Irish won their 21st in a row, beating Rutgers 15-3.

At Rocky Miller Park in Evanston, Northwestern swept Penn State in Big Ten doubleheader action and remains in a first place tie with Michigan.

Illinois sweeps Iowa too today down in Champaign.

Notre Dame beat Purdue 2-1 tonight to extend the streak to 23! From what I read, it was a chilly evening in South Bend.

I just got back from Notre Dame, Indiana, and it was cold there tonight. It was a case of great pitching by Notre Dame and Purdue. ND pitching recorded 12 strikeouts and held the Boilermakers to two hits. The difference was Irish shortstop Greg Lopez's two-run double in the second inning. Also, Notre Dame first baseman Criag Cooper's consecutive game hitting streak was snapped at 21.

This week, Notre Dame is ranked:

12th in Baseball America's Top 25 (http://www.baseballamerica.com/today/college/top25/261119.html)
8th in Collegiate Baseball's Top 30 (http://collegiatebaseball.com/polls/divI/currentpolldivI.htm)
18th in ESPN/USA Today's Top 25 (http://www.usatoday.com/sports/college/baseball/usatpoll.htm)
