Now this is just for fun....my friend I I were talking, if Mark really wants to go play in STL, and I would HATE to see him go, but lets think about this swap....

Buherle and Mulder
Buherle fav childhood team- Cards
Mulders Fav Childhood team- White Sox

Both are Leftys!!!

Mulder is 97-50
Buherle is 85-53

Mulder is 29
Buherle is 27

Think about it

I thought of this a long time ago... Problem is Mulder is on the last year of his contract... Buehrle still has the option for next year... Otherwise it might be interesting...

Why not?
Because Buehrle is a much better pitcher than Mulder now. Mulder put up a higher ERA last year in the inferior National League, while striking out a pitcher every 9th hitter. Mulder just hasn't been the same for the last year and a half.

Besides that, Buehrle is the heart and soul of this team. This proposal is dumb dumb dumb.

I don't think it's dumb at all. Very Comparable pitchers, I would hate to see him go, but Mulder is VERY comparable.

Anybody have ESPN Insider access? There's a headline "rumor" link about #56 going to St. Louis.

It's been a while since we've had a pointless trade/rumored trade/i want this trade thread.

Very Comparable pitchers

They are both lefties, but Buehrle's better, younger, and there's an option for next year.

I vote no.

Right and you translate those ERA's thusly...

Buehrle in the NL 2.75 (maybe lower)
Mulder in the AL 4.00 (maybe higher)

Getting to face a pitcher instead of a DH makes a huge difference...

God, you think I would have said Ponson for Buherle! Mulder is a Sox fan, a Lefty, an All Star, in his 20's, well 29, and has a record of 97-50....I love Buherle too, but we just were comparing the 2 and, albeit mark is better, but ifwe ever lost him to St L, I'd at least like Mulder back in return

With the way the Sox have been doing buisness as of late, I have no reason to believe anything other than that we will pick up Mark's option for '07, then sign him to an extension. No trades needed.

That would be great if it's all they could do, but they should instead make every effort to sign BurlyMon long term. He's earned it and has proven to be durable.

4 years $65M with an option for the 5th year at $16M and a $5M buyout should get it done.

I'm sure I'm going to hear from a bunch of people how this is way too much money, but given the market for pitching, it's probably where he ends up if not higher.

I won't argue that's what he deserves after seeing Burnett get 5 years 55 million, but will JR be willing to give a pitcher 16 million a year for the next 4-5 years?

Sorry, I don't do trades just for trades sake. Sending fans to their home cities isn't reason enough. I believe that Mark Buehrle has finally realized that he is going to be a White Sox for a very long time and is content with that.

Buehrle's not just "a pitcher" ....

He's an A-C-E :gulp:

They'll get something done, no doubt about it.

I'm not perfect on the numbers but it's definately that ballpark. A lot of money but worth every penny, IMHO.

I except Buehrle to be signed to an extension this offseason. If they really need to clear salary to do it, they'll salary dump one of the other guys and put McCarthy in his slot.

Let's just re-sign MB so we don't have to go throw this BS. MB has been a stalwart on this pitching staff and in MLB for 5.5 seasons, and such a trade would be ridiculous.

Burls is the heart of this team. KW isn't letting him go. He gives us the innings and he's a losing streak breaker. If they have to move Javy or JG, they'll do that before losing Burls.

Sure thing, let's throw in Thome too!

I'd do that - if they threw in Pujols.

Pretty much one of the few deals I would do involving Buehrle (and Thome).

Other teams:
Marlins for Willis and Cabrera
Mets for Pedro and Wright

Can't think of many others.

Cubs for Wood and Prior

2005- Mulder- 16-8 ERA 3.64

Also a fact betwwen the 2

2004 All Star Game starter- Mulder
2005 All Star Game starter- Buherle

Buehrle 2005 - 237 IP, 40 BB, 149 K, 143 ERA+, 1.18 WHIP
Mulder 2005 - 205 IP, 70 BB, 111 K, 117 ERA+, 1.38 WHIP

The bolded text is the biggest difference between the two. Buehrle had a 3.12 ERA in a league where the average ERA was 4.45. Mulder had a 3.64 in a league where the average ERA was 4.27. By that measure Buehrle is almost 3/4 of a run per game better (1.33 - .63 = .7) last year than Mulder. And Buehrle is younger. And oh yeah, he also was one of the leaders of the World Series Champs.

There are pitchers I would trade Buehrle straight up for. Mulder is not on that list.

OK I started this thread, and I even put it in Whats the Score from the get go, because I thought it was an interesting senerio...I guess what got me and my friend talking about it was how Mulder was a Sox fan...lets hope Mulder pitches a great game tonight against the Cubs....

Who's Buherle? Is he related to Buehrle?

Not trying to offend you, just think you should know how to spell his name.
