According to published reports, Jake Peavy has goes through a strange ritual before every start. In August, veteran Roger Clemens told Peavy it feels good to feel as uncomfortable as possible on the mound, so he rubs Icy Hot on his jock strap before every start. He tried it last August and tossed a shutout in August. "I figured, what do I have to lose?" Peavy said. "Well, I threw a complete-game shutout against Washington (3-0 win with 10 strikeouts). Now, it's become routine. I do it every start. And, Roger is right, it does make you feel uncomfortable."

That still isn't worse than Alou. That is just crazy and painful, but Alou's ritual is disgusting and unsanitary.

"Is it necessary for me to drink my own urine?
No, but I do it anyway because it's sterile and I like the taste."

I'm guessing some players have even more bizarre/disgusting rituals we haven't heard about. Yet.:?:

What Alou was doing (and I think Posada said he did too and they both said a lot of latin players do it... just don't admit it) had a point though, they were trying to strength the skin on their hands. Gross, yes, but not like they were doing it for the hell of it.

So Wrigley Field technically is one of the most sanitary places on Planet Earth, right?

Hmm, that is out there, I'd probably just not fully wipe or something. But then again, these type of things are not that unusual when you think about it. How many times do people say 'yes' when you throw out a 'would you do this for a million dollars...' situation? These guys do
