The Sox killed him last year. He's lost his "Cy" status, as far I'm concerned.

Lord no. At least with other famous Sox killers, Jim Thome, Mike Sweeney, etc.... they were good players. Joe Mays, on the other hand, sucked against every other MLB team except the Sox and consistently beat us.

Nothing would make me smile more than watching the offense unload years of frustration on this guy.

It's wrong, unless you're a Royals fan.

Gil Heredia was a Sox killer for a couple years, but I think you'd agree he falls into the Joe Mays class of baseball players. At least David Ortiz isn't in the division anymore as well.

He hasn't been a Sox killer since he had his Tommy John Surgery.

The Sox have beat him up the last couple of times.

Is it wrong to cringe? YES... He is barely hanging on in the big leagues after his plethora of surgeries a few years back.

Is it wrong to hate? NO... As any good fan of a team should do, it is perfectly normal to continue to hate the players that made your life miserable, until they put on your team's uniform (i.e. Jim Thome and AJ Pierzynski)

Is it wrong? Well, a lot of the players that struggled the most against Mays are no longer here. Valentin, Ordonez, and Lee come to mind as guys who made Joe Mays look really good for some mysterious reason. When we revamped the roster last year, the spell that Mays had on us vanished in a hurry so I'm not as worried as I once was about facing this guy.

Since his surgery he has not amounted to jack squat. I think tonight we are going to drop some bombs on him. the sirens will be blaring tonight.

3 years ago I wanted to bomb the word Joe Crede.

Amen!

Now a couple more years of his heroics and Shoeless Joe will be the 2nd Joe people think about when they think White Sox.

(sorry for the thread hijack, I'm just falling in love with Joe Crede)

A.J. was saying, right as the game was starting, that it was not the same Joe Mays since his surgery. I was thinking "Man, I hope he's right". Shortly thereafter, the ass-kicking commenced.:bandance:

The whole Joe Mays thing was, IMHO, just another mental thing the Sox had against the Twins. When you have a bunch of homer/stat hungry monsters coming to the park everyday, overswinging at everything, it's pretty easy to shut them down if you can locate a little off speed junk. A.J. knew that, and that's the game he threw the Sox players' way year after year. Hell, we even made Kyle Lohse look like Cy Lohse a few more times than I'd like to remember!
