ATLANTA -- The Braves will be without Edgar Renteria's hot bat for the next few days. They're hoping that the shortstop's strained left rib cage doesn't keep him out any longer. Renteria was forced to leave Saturday night's game against the Padres in the sixth inning, after swinging and missing at strike three from Jake Peavy. He immediately dropped his bat, slowly picked it up, and then walked gingerly toward the Braves dugout.

Don't know why the Red Sox gave up so easily on Renteria last year. He did have a little bit of a down year for him, but it was still a lot better than an average shortstop's year. The only major problem he had was a huge increase in errors, but that might have to do with first base being played by Kevin Millar.
