This man is awesome and I think it's high time I start a thread where we can share all our fond memories and thoughts about our favorite guy from Tokyo.

Well he's my perma-PTC. He's solid at second base and not too bad at the plate either.

He's also a standout guy. Obviously he doesn't speak English too well, but he never shows any signs of attitude or displeasure. He does his thing and he does it well.

Japan, way to go.

Other than being extremely talented, Iguchi is also one of our most consistent players... I kept waiting for him to be overwhelmed by pitchers last year and it never really happened until the postseason... granted, he did hit the massive HR off of Wells

He's just a solid all-around ballplayer and arguably the best No. 2 hitter in baseball!

TO TADAHITO...:gulp:

Iguchi is rock solid when he is not spectacular. He was a huge part of the Sox success in 2005, and it is a shame if he thinks his role was underappreciated (like wanting to hit for more power). If Rowand was the heart of "win or die trying" Iguchi was the soul of team ball. If the Sox repeat you can bet Iguchi will be there.

I still don't believe it, that play was incredible. Shades of last years october defensive heroics. Man, I love these guys!

Gooch was incredible today. His last defensive play was something worth the admission price of today's game but let's not forget another outstanding play.

Anyone remember the play or two before where he ran toward center, lept and snagged a ball on the fly? That was equally incredible.

I am seriously thinking about my next jersey being an Iguchi.

Today's game D all around was something I really appreciated big time. It smacked me in the face how good the White Sox can be on defense.

Honestly, one of the best two or three defensive plays that I have ever seen in my life (only 21 years, but nonetheless...)

Unbelievable.. Weird, I got out of the shower today after playing some football at the park and put on my Iguchi jersey-shirt.. 10 seconds after I put it on I see the play on tv and it was incredible.

Iguchi's play was the #1 web gem, no surprise there, but the Baseball Tonight guy said it could be the web gem of the year even though its only April......:supernana:

That play left me speechless while standing by my seat. My 10 year old niece said "wow, that's a web gem"!

I was at the game today and saw Iguchi's play from my seat in right-center. I was watching it develop from behind Iguchi, and I thought for sure it was going to be an infield hit -- then Iguchi appeared to stumble and fall forward and I thought, "oh man, the tying run's on base for sure."

Then in the next instant there's a throw from underneath Iguchi. Konerko reaches for the throw and I see the ump make the call. I was frozen in my spot. What happened here? Where'd that throw come from? How did he do that? In my stupor I missed the replay on the video board, but I got to see Jenks give Iguchi a grateful slap on the rump with his glove.

Been a lot of places, seen a lot of things, but that was one hell of a play today. Iguchi is steady like Nelson Fox and clutch hitting like Joe Morgan, and occasionally spectacular like nobody else. I've always had a soft spot for secondbasemen, and it's always a pleasure to watch Iguchi do it right.

Gooch!

Saw the play from both the front/back perspectives, but it is particularly brilliant when the camera is facing Iguchi. Can anyone suggest a link to video showing the play from this point of view? Can't see it too many times! Incredible!

Unbelievably, the play is absent at the moment from the Top Plays portion of mlb.tv, and it's not on the highlight video on the Sox website. They do play it on espn.com as part of the game highlights.

EDIT: fyi...just found it on the sox site... http://chicago.whitesox.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/news/wrap.jsp?ymd=20060415&content_id=1401646&vkey=wrapup2005&fext=.jsp&team=home

The picture they have is just amazing...

Usually with any kind of great play, after you see it a few times you get used to it and it becomes less spectacular. I just saw it again on baseballtonight and even though I know what's going to happen, I still cannot believe he got that throw off with any kind of accuracy. The other impressive thing about that play is that he did not dislocate his shoulder hitting the ground.

I just listened to the play with the radio feed. It's really the only time I've heard those dudes all year doing the radio...and they are as bad as everyone says. They did him no justice on that. All he said was, "he hit the deck on that play and still got him out."

Anyway, this is an Iguchi appreciation thread. Last year I decided to fly last minute half way across the country to watch game 2 of the ALDS. Iguchi made every second worth it with that homer off Wells.

I just realized after watching that play again, that whole scene is almost identical to the last out of the World Series. The big hook from Jenks, Jenks jumping to get it over his head...but then instead of Uribe making an amazing play...its GOOCH!

I'll tell you what that play by Iguchi was the best I have seen. I thought some of the plays made by Juan last year were amazing, this play was downright sickening. Awesome baseball player and seems like a great guy to boot. You Da Man Gooch!!!!

Reifert also quotes Iguchi as having said that he hurt his back on the play. Let's hope he's ok!!!

Specifically, Iguchi said he feels it in his lower back. I'm hoping that he avoided using the word "hurt" on purpose, and that it's just one of those things that is taken care of by a nice warm bath to relax in.

Being there, I think that is one of those plays that will be hard to ever forget. Watching it live, it looked like all kinds of disaster waiting to happen, until you see it the ball land into the mitt for the out. Between that play and the leaping snag earlier in the game, Iguchi was our angel in the infield to make sure the White Sox won the game.

Unbelievable.

As a hitter, I love the way he can make adjustments. On numerous occasions I've seen games where he looks totally overmatched and clueless on his first at bat against a particular pitcher, but then on the second at bat against the same pitcher- POW! He blasts one

As far as his web gem, what can you say? That move reminded me of the kind my old cat used to be able to make when she was a kitten!

In 40 years of watching ball that has to be among the top 5 plays I've ever seen.

As I said in another thread, all Gooch does is play baseball. I hope he plays his entire career here.

I love WSI. I was looking all over to find a highlight of that play. Thanks guys.

I was at the game yesterday in the outfield and I couldn't believe my eyes. I was trying to describe to someone what I saw, but as I described it, I didn't believe it myself. I thought I must have just been remembering it wrong, but then I saw the play on the rebroadcast last night and it was exactly as I remembered it. That's got to be thebest play I have ever seen in my life.

Watching that play develop in front of me was amazing. Seeing the outcome was unbelievable. Everyone I talk to today are asking me about that play and how it looked in person.
