Just looked at the standings this morning. Sox are in second, just one game back from Cleveland. Cubs are in fourth. What a difference one day makes.

Last weekend, when the dark clouds were gathering, I started a thread about how "the standings were upside down". Early April can look strange. You knew the cream was going to rise to the top pretty quick. Keep the line moving, Sox.

It's a long long season. I guess people forget the 162 before the playoffs and the world series. There will be ups and downs, ebbs and flows. Remember?

Exactly! This is the beauty...and frustration...of the game of baseball. To get too down or up after any particular game or series (playoffs being an exception) is going to make you ready for the the psyche ward. Don't confuse football's pace with baseball's.

That's funny. The same also could be applied to Bonds.

I think we all got used to being in first every day. :D:

I rarely even look at the standings or what other teams are doing until at least mid-May.

Look what happened to Baltimore last year, they rushed out of the gates only to crash hard.

I appreciate the sentiment... but lets get over the Cubs.

How often do you pay attention to the various Minor Leagues' standings? The NL is a Minor League, plain and simple. I don't care how the Iowa Cubs are doing, I don't care how the Chicago Cubs are doing. They don't count.

There are 14 teams bothering to play this year.

Sorry to disagree, but here we go again.

First, the Cubs do not play in the minor leagues, and they play in the same city as the Sox do, which in and of itself makes them worthy of our attention.
Second, this guy's post was about as objective as it gets. He was not "obsessing" (God, I hate that word!) about the Cubs, he was merely making an observation--and IMO, an astute one.
Third, at some point (hopefully), the Sox will have to play against one of the NL teams for their sewcond straight title. So they do count.

I'm not trying to pick a fight here, but WS05Champs post was--again, IMO--a good one.

I'm happy you appreciate the sentiment Unfortunately if you live in the Chicago area and unless you live in a box, you cannot simply ignore the Cubs. True they really don't matter in the Sox standings but they do compete for the Sox attention in the newspaper article, TV spots and magazine articles. I sure do enjoy seeing more Sox articles.

I often look at the standings of the NL teams because as MarySwiss so well put it, we will be playing NL teams. Plus I like seeing how Rowan is doing for his new team.

And here is another big reason some of us pay some attention to the Cubs - we enjoy the banter with Cubs fans. Some WSI poster seem to be getting way too serious in criticizing the posts of others. Baseball is supposed to be FUN. Lets lighten up.
