Iíve noticed that quite a few teams have been sporting a new type of batting helmet with all kinds of vents and **** on Ďem.

Personally, Iím glad the Sox donít wear themÖI think they kind of suck.

Whatís your take on them?
:gulp:

I think they look silly. The Mets helmets have to be the worse because not only do they have the weird shape, but an interesting color scheme as well. They seem to be blue in the front and fade to black (to steal a Metallica song name) in the back.

The story is that they are safer. If thats the case, we should use them and not case how they look!

They aren't safer, they are just lighter, cooler and more comfortable.

Thanks for referencing one of the best and most underappreciated Metallica songs (aside from Orion of course) *end thread hijack*

The story I heard is that they are just "for show" so that different companies can be distinguished from one another. I think there was a segment on ESPN during the WBC about it because that is where the helmets debuted. It said that batting helment companies aren't allowed to put their logos on them since that would be part of the team/MLB marketing (I'm not sure if that's true or not). I don't know if it's Riddell that makes these helmets or not, but it looks like a product they would produce.....

They actually were worn by a few guys during the all star game last year. Not a good look, if you ask me. Especially the Mets' ones. I'm glad we don't have them....yet.

They look kind of silly, but I guess they will grow on me, except the Mets and their garbage two-toned batting helmet. Jeez, these guys are to the 2000s what the Astros were to the 1970s, jersey & fashion nightmare after another.

Leave it to the Mets to come up with a bizarro two-tone design so they look like ridiculous anime characters. Why, Mets, why?!

I do wish that the two-tone design was repeated with certain teams. Not everyone can have that traditional look (and get away with it)

IMO the teams that should go two-tone:
1. N.Y. Mets
2. Florida
3. Houston
4. Arizona
5. Colorado
6. San Diego
7. Tampa Bay
8. Toronto
9. Kansas City (shoot me, i like the black that they use to have)
10. Seattle

*Continuing your thread hijack* Fade to Black happens to be my favorite Metallica song, which is part of the reason why I decided to throw it in that message. *End of hijack*

For those of you who may not have seen the Mets helmets, when we are talking two-tone, we're not talking about the brim being one color and the rest of the helmet another. Literally, the brim and the whole front portion of the helmet (even where the logo is) is blue, but becomes black for the remainder of the helmet. It looks rather goofy. Here is a link to a photo that shows it off pretty well.

Anything would be an improvement over this look.

The original Fade to Black helmet.

The day is coming when ballplayers are going to look like Gazoo from the
Flintstones. Speaking of helmets, why does Jim Thomes already look like he's
played here for years? Don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining about Jim, but it looks like the one Ozzie used to were when he was a player. If you think back, before Oz left the Sox, you could barely see the Sox logo on his.
