W-S wins an early game 4-0.
The 'Hogs have given up a total of 2 runs in the past 3 games combined.

Egbert, Banks & Zaleski combine for the shutout.
Egbert also (big surprise) picked off a baserunner.

Kelly was the hitting star: 3-4, 2 2B, 3 RBI.
Mercedes 2-3, HBP, R; Gomes 1-3, BB, SB.

Tonight's matchups:

Lubisich & Charlotte v. Columbus.
Broadway & B'ham v. Huntsville.
D. Cortes & Kannapolis v. Asheville.

So far, so good in Columbus.
The Knights spot Lubisich an early 2-0 lead.

Owens led off with a HR. Gonzales singled,
stole second, and scored on a Fields' single.

And the hits just keep on coming for the Knights.
It's 4-0 in the 2nd, following a single by Young +
a 2-run HR by Rivera.

Unfortunately, things aren't going quite as well for Kanny.
The I's trail 6-0 after 1 inning of play. Cortes is getting
rocked: 4 hits, 1 BB, 1 HBP, 1 WP, and an error by one
of the 47 Rodriguezes on the team.

I'm listening to the Knights game and Russ Johnson just hit one out. They said the wind is blowing out pretty good.

Hey Maurice, where did you sit at Toledo Sunday? If you saw someone wearing a Barrons' hat that was me :D: My son was wearing a White Sox jacket and a Knights hat.

Sec. 108, 3rd row, Seats 1 & 2.
I think I saw your kid. He was very well dressed.

Columbus tied it up in the bottom of the 2nd.

Our seats were section 118 row 3, but there were 4 empty seats in the 1st row and that's were we sat:cool: The guy I sat next to asked me if the Knights were the AAA team of the Cubs  I told him their AAA team was playing the Cardinals in Chicago :D:

We actually heard the ball hit the window on Casey's HR. He reminds me of Jason Giambi (without the juice).

The Knights game has turned into a football game. Both starters are gone. It's 10-6 Columbus in the 5th, and the home plate ump got KTFO on a wild ball 4. There was a very short lightening / rain delay. Owens and Fields have 2 hits each, and Rogo stole a base.

The Barons are up 3-0 after 2 innings. Collaro had a 2-run single, and Molina homered.

The I's trail 10-2 through in the 6th.

Subjunctive warning.

If Pods is unable to get back his stroke, then is either Sweeney or Owens anywhere near ready to assume his spot?

Right now I dont think so. But maybe if Pods is still batting near the mendoza line one of them could be called up. Id assume preferable Owens since he could take over at leadoff but if he isnt up for the task im sure either Rogowski or Sweeney will have a good enough first half to take Pods position.

I saw Sweeney swing on the games televised from Toledo and his results have been similar since. I think he has quite a few (not unexpected) adjustments to make in AAA before you even think about bringing him up. He's going out of the zone on bad breaking balls and uncharacteristically striking out a ton.

Owens has been in a funk since the spring. I'd say Pods is just as likely to break out of it as either of these two guys in the near future. Now, if he's hurt, then that's a different story.

Charlotte loses 12-6:

Birmingham wins 8-4 with everyone getting a hit (Valido 2-4, Nanita 2-4) and Broadway giving up 4 ER's in 5.1 IP with just 1 K. All the runs coming on a 2-out grand slam.

W-S wins 4-0.

Kanny loses 10-3 (Orlando was 2-4 with a triple leading off)
