I made the mistake of heading to the Northwestern Train Station building food court for lunch a bit ago. As I'm heading into the building, a stream of nearly identical, pookah-shelled, backward-baseball capped, Pryor-jersey wearing maroons comes out the revolving doors towards me. They're everywhere, making dumb loud jokes in the food court and by the escalators.

Yes, Kubbie Klown dorks from the 'burbs, getting geared up for what is assuredly going to be another brick in the wall of the 2006 Championship Run by the Northsiders.

Who's worse--Kubby Klown dorks from the burbs or Kubbie Klown yuppies from Lincoln Park? I once had to take the Red Line north from downtown to see a client just before a Cub game. The train was full of both kinds. Hundreds of 'em. I wanted to go wash after getting off the train.

The wind is blowing out at about twenty miles an hour right now. The Reds have two home-runs and two on the warning track. One out in the top of the second. 2-0 Cincy.

About 10 years ago I rode the Red Line up to Howard one Saturday afternoon. It stopped at the Addison stop about 2 or 3 hours after a Cub game had ended. Two couples all dressed in blue got on and were as drunk as someone can be without alcohol poisoning setting in.

The couples stood by the doors (despite 80% of the seats being available) and started talking loudly. The two women in the group then started showing off their Norplant birth control implants in their arms for all to see.:o:

Thank goodness they were using birth control!

The only thing that separates the two is a job at the Merc.

Cheeses- You should see that train station at 7pm when I get in from work. After a day game, it usually takes the drunks a couple of hours to make it back downtown on the El. So, the place is a mess. The bathrooms are trashed...I mean absolutely trashed like a college frat party. There are always about 50 people in Scrubs jerseys hanging out at the two train station bars upstairs (which is about the most uncool type of bar on the planet, one step up from an airport lounge or a cheap hotel bar).

I posted this under the thread about who starts the taunting, but it applies here too:

Last night, a bunch of "over-served" Cub fans got on an evening train at the Irving Park Metra station. Two were soon booted off by a conductor (one for commandeering the PA system). Several Cub fans settled in one car, and some of the regular passengers got up and stood by the doors to get away from the loud, foul language.

When a woman complained to me about how drunk and disorderly they were I said, "The sad thing is that when they wake up tomorrow morning they'll be sober -- but they'll still be Cub fans."

I can hardly wait for tonight's train ride home.

I took the 6:30 train home to Irving Park tonight, arriving there around 7pm. As the train pulled into the stop, I noticed several Kub fans down on the street the parallels the tracks (Avondale Ave.) drinking beers outside a cafe there. Now mind you, this is 7pm, roughly 3 hours after the game ended, and they're still drinking. One dope looks up, notices the train, and summons his other Chad friend and their 2 Trixie girlfriends, and they come barreling up the steps to the platform still holding their full beer cups in hand. So I wouldn't be surprised to hear the above story repeated another 70-75 more times this year.

I guess this is what I have to look forward to for the duration of my living where I do and working where I do, as that Metra stop is the nearest one to the Urinal on that particular Metra line.

Great.

I was probably on the same train if it was the Northwest line. Tonight's crowd was mild compared to last night's. On Wednesday I took the 7:30 train, so the group that got on had an extra hour to celebrate.

They're usually not too unruly, but the Wednesday night group was obnoxious. Hide the women 'n children! Here come more drunken Cub fans!
