I believe there were 44 roof shots and 7 homeruns into the center field bleachers at the old comiskey (these come from answers to trivia questions on this site). Does anyone know of a list of the players who hit these homeruns and other info, such as dates, opposing pitcher, etc?

I know that Jorge Bell was the only player to hit one on the roof and in the bleachers in the same game--unfortunatley he did it for Toronto...
Luzinski hit 3 in 83---off Brian Elkers(misspelled), Ray Fontenot and Oil Can Boyd---Luzinski hit the first two off Fontenot in the big leagues
Ron Kittle I believe hit the most roofshots

I think the "White Sox Encyclopedia" has a list along these lines.

I have a copy at home; if I remember, I'll try to look it up tonight and post the results...

The book "Thanks for the Memories" lists them all. Its a great pictorial about Old Comiskey. Unfortunately, it's at home and I am at school. Sorry :(:

The White Sox Encyclopedia has a list that has everything you're looking for including opposing pitchers, date, and everything. I'll let Cheeses look it up for you though. I'm at work now. :(:

i was there for luzinski's in 83' off of oil can. it was my first game i ever attended. (i had been to a cubs game in '82 but i don't count that one.) it was beautiful. in the paper the next day 3rd base coach jimmy leyland said it looked like a golf ball. that was probably one of my most memorable moments at old comisky. i remember trying to spit on ernie whitt from the uppder deck as he warmed up the pitcher. oh the things we do as kids. michael penny

I was there for the Luzinski homer against Fontenot. It was a thing of beauty. I was sitting in the lower deck to the right side of home plate, with the upper deck hanging over me. When Luzinski swung, I followed the flight of the ball as far as I could before the overhanging deck blocked my view and then waited as I saw it fall back into my vision. I then saw the ball bounce off the roof and onto the field. After the game, Luzinski was being interviewed on the field by a television reporter. A number of fans remained, chanting, "Bull! Bull! Bull!"

You'll notice a sudden explosion of roof shots in '83. That's because home plate was moved forward, closer to the walls, due to the whining of Luzinski about how far the walls were in old Comiskey. I think it was only ten feet forward, but it was enough to turn a lot of upper-deck shots into roof jobs.

Gotta read more closely. I see that the fact that the plate was moved was mentioned above. Sorry.

But it doesn't change the fact that Comiskey was the place where "fly balls went to die".

New Comiskey has nothing on the old park,I know,I helped build it.

The only name of those opponets that hit roof shots that surprises me is Larry Sheets.
