I was in a fight with my girlfriend over who the best starting pitcher was and i was just wondering who everyone's favorite pitcher is?

I think MB because he is so old fashioned. :worship: 88 (on a good day) mph fastball and still being an ace.....gotta love it.

he gone!

yep. buehrle gets my vote. my girlfriend says contreras.

Some people still say that Buehrle is not, yet he's the one who goes out there every 5th day and performs like he did yesterday, setting the bar for the rest of the staff. Buehrle without a doubt is our best and most consistent pitcher.

It's Buehrle, But if Contrares pitched like he did in the 2nd half of '05 and last start then it is him.

Buehrle has been my favorite for a while now. Firstly, he is our best pitcher. And secondly, he's another lefty like your's truly! But I am also excited about Vazquez this year. He is going to be great.

Buehrle because hes got that old-school mentality, hes a grinder, goes out every five days, gets you 6+ innings, does it quick, doesn't mess around...

I do like Garlands game though, because hes not a big strikeout guy, but his inconsistency drops him down.

I like how Buehrle just goes out there and pitches. Doesn't waste time. Gotta like a game that's over in 2:10; especially when he gets the win..:)

This year? MB

Of all time? Britt Burns

Mark is the most dependable IMO.

I loved the way Britt Burns' hat fell off after every pitch :D:

My all time favorite Sox pitcher was Wilbur Wood.

#56 all the way. He's the one guy on the staff I feel can take the Sox out of any prolonged losing streak. In fact, he's already done that in the first week of the season.

Buehrle. He's really fast and he's left-handed like I am.

The best starting pitcher is Mark Buehrle.

My favorite pitcher is Neal Cotts. He had such a rough start to his career, but he has since turned it around and is arguably the best relief pitcher on the staff. Plus, he has the coolest demeanor while pitching.

I remember when he beat Mark Mulder and the A's

in Chicago, and the total game time was 1:53.

But his 2-1 triumph over the M's last April
was the best;1:39 .

If the thread is asking for a starting pitcher I have to go with Buehrle as well. However, my favorite White Sox pitcher is Neal Cotts since he graduated from ISU. Go Redbirds!!!

Ok, you were arguing about who the best pitcher is, and you want to know who the favorite pitcher is?

Man, those are two very, very different things.

Best: Johan Satan
Favorite: Jose Contreras. That constantly-changing arm angle is like El Duque in his prime. Just plain fun to watch.

Mark Buehrle will win this in a landslide. He's got control, a variety of pitches, eats innings, and is a damn cool guy.

How many of these millionaire players slip and slide?

edit: on the team my 2nd place goes to Cotts. He doesn't get nearly enough local (except for WSI) and national recognition for his capabilities.

I was watching TSN's version of Sports Center tonight (I'm up in the Toronto area visiting my hunnie right now), and when they mentioned MLB's stud pitchers, they mentioned Contreras, but no Buehrle. I think Buehrle still is this team's ace and will win a Cy Young award or two before his career's done. I'd still give the game ball to Buehrle anytime. He's the most efficient pitcher on this team.

I drafted both Contreras and Vazquez for my fantasy team, so I think they're going to have good years. But I also drafted my favorite pitcher: McCarthy.

Long term he's going to be the best of the bunch.

But I will concede, you've got to love Buerhle.

Favorite of all time? The guy who should be the voice of the Sox Black Jack McDowell.

I used to like MB a lot. But last year when things were going bad, he got lit up against Texas and then cried to the press about the Rangers cheating. Whether or not they were is pointless. But if you're an ace, you stop losing streaks. And if you didn't, you don't go around crying to the press about the other team cheating. That left a real bad taste in my mouth last year and since then MB has been in my doghouse.

So I will say Conty because he he stepped up.

MB has stepped up big time. Game 2 ALCS - 9 IP, 1 R, game 3 WS save after starting game 2, Sunday against KC, 8 IP, 0 R to snap a 4 game skid. Yet he might have only the 3rd best stuff on the staff, yet he's a winner --- gotta love that.

Has anyone ever won 300 games without a Cy Young award?

Buehrle.

He's consistent. Does what he has to do. Over the past five years he was won at least 14 games every year. Pitched over 200 innings. And other stuff I just can't remember.

And I love his attitude. The slides. The squirting of water to the fans. The vote for Pods for the All Star team.

The wanting to pitch the 10th inning during the ALCS. The pitching of Game Three.

The fact that he was willing to forgo his streak to get back at the Orioles.

That's what I love about the guy.

i think for overall consistancy MB would probably have to be the choice. now if you wanna talk about "stuff", MB may not even be in the top 3, which makes him an even more beloved figure IMO. as far as stuff goes, JC is just flat out nasty, 92-94 mph fastball, a forkball that falls off the table and moves, depending on his arm angle, which also varies greatly. JV, is also a guy with great stuff, as is JG, having said that about jon, he is very inconsistant with his stuff. if we had to win one game, do eenie meanie minee moe, between MB and JC and you've got a hell of a shot. freddie, is a quality guy, who ironically could really end up being the 5th starter on this team if jon continues the path he started last year, and javier lives up to his arm..... oh, and by the way, BM WILL take the next vacant spot in the rotation and eventually be a #1 or #2... imo

I loved the way Britt Burns' hat fell off after every pitch :D:

My all time favorite Sox pitcher was Wilbur Wood.

When Hoss was throwing right over the top he was as tough as anyone. I remember Don Drysdale saying that when Burns' hat fell a certain way, it meant a great game from him was coming.

But even though Britt is one of my personal All-time favorites, he only spent three full seasons in the Sox rotation. Mark is starting his sixth, so his track record is better.

So who would I pick?

Hmmm..... The lefty!!

hmm, so many choices...

all-time : black jack

current starter: gotta give it to ol' 56, but man, vasquez is gonna be fun to watch

current reliever: i might have a man crush on cotts. the dude could stare down a mack truck. either cotts, or the stay puft guy we've got closing games for us. i can't wait to see him finally unleash a 100mph piece of cowhide on someone's head. yikes.

CURRENT: Buehrle... DUH! When I saw him rounding 3rd at the Metrodome with a beer in hand, I immediately knew this guy was a guy after my own heart.

BEST ALL-TIME: Wood, hands down. IMO the toughest guy we've EVER had on the mound, in my lifetime anyway. Like Buehrle, the camera could cut to a close-up of him on the mound after he'd just gotten pounded, and Wood looked like he was reading a boring book or trying to stay awake in church. Nothing ever fazed him. Plus he pitched for some pretty weak Sox teams in the 70's and still managed to string together 4 consecutive 20-win seasons. Though I was a Joey Cora fan, no one in a Sox uniform should have ever been allowed to wear #28 after Wilbur Wood hung it up.

I dressed up as him for halloween too. However, I am a bigger guy, so about 75% of people though I was Jenks, about 15% Buehrle (cause of the facial hair), and the other 5%, well, lets just say those people are crazy.

CURRENT-
Freddy Garcia- He may drive people crazy but he is about the best big game pitcher we have. (got the win for all 4 clinching games for our championship season, and 2 dominating wins over the Cubs during the crosstown series). I absolutely love watching him pitch too. Nasty biting stuff, above average velocity, he has a 3/4 arm slinging delivery, and is an imposing figure on the mound. Probably my favorite player on the Sox right now.

PAST-
Jaime Navarro!! All kidding aside, Black Jack would be my favorite from the past.

Contreras won the Pennant clinching game.

Contreras won the Pennant clinching game.

Ah, you are correct. Freddy started Game 4 of the ALCS (putting us up 3-1), Jose started Game 5 (the clincher). My mistake. Freddy was on the hill for the AL Central Division clincher in Detroit, the ALDS winner in Boston, and saved his best for Game 4 of the World Series to wrap up the championship.
