Heaven help Derek, Bombers
Six months after they were eliminated from the division series by the Angels, the Yanks returned to the scene of their defeat and turned in a performance that made it all too easy to remember how they got bounced, dropping a 4-1 decision before a sellout crowd at Angel Stadium.

Torre has choke and a smile
Lisa Olson: Of all the lasting images, the sight of Bubba Crosby doing a header into Gary Sheffield still makes Joe Torre smile. That's right, Yankee fans, especially those of you on the verge of leaping off the Macombs Dam Bridge. Sometimes all you can do is grin and bear it. Sometimes the season begins the way it ends, with a burst of hope followed by a sputter.

April 8, 2006 -- ANAHEIM - The Dead Bat Society was supposed to be extinct. Adding Johnny Damon to the incumbent muscle in the Yankee lineup was designed to avoid the Yankees' bats going limp.

HOUSE OF WAXED
ANAHEIM - Joe Torre insisted he isn't tortured by this splendid ballpark by the freeway, that the inglorious memories of past failures do not crowd his heart when he drives past the huge "A" in the parking lot, or when he walks on the field and sees that big rockpile out beyond center

I predicted Torre would be the first manager fired... and I'm beginning to believe it'll happen in April or May...

That being said, the Yankmees have started slow quite a few times and made the playoffs every year since the late 90's...

The 1998 Yankees started 0-3... That's why I'm not worried about the Sox, yet... Weren't the Yankees in last place last year at the end of April? It didn't stop them from winning the division.

It's nice to see brutal and senseless bashing by other media too. If you read the Trib., Mark Gonzales and Dave Van Dyke take pleasure when the Sox lose. Negative remarks and smart ass needlings flow from their finger tips during tough times. Yet, when they win it's down played. I've e-mailed both of those jags several times, questioning their logic and sophmoric terminology. Gonzales will e-mail back but Van Dick does not. I mean when the Sox are 0-1 in one run games and Van Dyke says they're not the same team, you have to realize the whole 'Cubune' thing is more than true.

You know what the Yankees' problem is? They play a set lineup every day.:redneck

In New York and Boston, bashing is an art form, but so far the Boston writers have nothing to complain about. One 2 game losing streak and they will be back to normal.
