I need -- today -- what I think is a Sox hat from the 1980s for my son's birthday: Red, white and blue with SOX in block letters horizontally. I'm having trouble locating one of those. I work downtown and live in the naar Northwest burbs. Any ideas where I could look? Thanks for the help.

Grandstand on 35th would be your best bet.

Accurate fitted caps (you may be able to email the guy and ask for a different size if these aren't right):

An adjustable one that is close, but not quite accurate:

I can't recall seeing one in an actual store since the early 90's.

EDIT: Nevermind. Grandstand shows one:

You should be able to go to any mall and find one at a Lids or Hatworld or one of those type places. They are extremly popular along with the blue and white one with the batter logo. I saw a Nike one what you described at Dicks but it is not fitted. It's got the strap that comes across your head. Very sharp hat but I don't like those kind. It's usually gotta be fitted for me.

There is a sporting goods store on Michigan between water st and wacker dr. They should have the cap you are looking for.

Where I'm at, Lids doesn't have a Sox cap. It's all Cubs and a few Cards hats. :whiner:

Thanks to all for the suggestions. Chicago Sports & Novelties and Lids have the '83 hats with the "batter up" logo, but only the fitted kind -- and I don't know how big my son's head is (or how much extra room he needs when he goes three months between haircuts). My wife was right, I should have sized him with a tape measure last night!

Grandstand looks like my best bet. Hope I can get down there by 7 p.m.

i got the fitted one when I was 16-17 and I got a large. It's a lil stretchy... dunno if that helps at all!

The "batter up" logo was never actually used on a cap.

I always liked that one too. I think it's very underrated. You rarely se a hat like that unless you get it at a place at Grandstand. That is the only place i've seen one like the old 70's hat.

Build a time machine, or buy one off of ebay, and then go back to 1980. Or Go to any sports store in Chicago and ask for the 1980 White Sox hat... either way should work. I've seen 'em everywhere.

I'm worried that if my son starts taking steroids he'll outgrow the fitted type. :D:

Ah, the red, white, and blue '83 hat with Sox block letters. That's a damn fine piece of headwear!
I wear that hat everyday.

I think Brain Tonic does that, not Steroids!

I wear that hat everyday. The most hideous hat the Sox have ever sported. I had the road cap then because I thought all the home cap needed to be complete was a propeller on top.

www.dugout-memories.com (http://www.dugout-memories.com) is a great site, plus they have everything sorted by team....they have some that even the grandstand doesn't have
