Hey.....Are we not the 2005 World Series Champions? Can we not get some decent anthem singers? I am referring specifically to today's game.

Also earpieces provided for all singers (like Josh had) would be helpful in avoiding the reverb effect.

were the fighters just late or were they planned for that flyby about 20 secs after the song

I'm guessing they were late.

For anyone interested, I uploaded a quickie video of the jets flying over.

I thought today's singer was great. Yeah, world champs but lets not get inflated heads here...we're still the Sox...not the Yankees!

She did a good job with the anthem. Who cares if she is a "big name".

The anthem was just ok, but I agree that we're not the Yankees so whatever!

I was in the upper deck and saw them on the approach. Very very cool!

The greatest rendition of the national anthem that I have ever heard at a sporting event was for Game 2 of last year's ALCS against the Angels. The guitar was badass!!! I wish they would hire him full-time!

At least it's not always someone from the Lyric Opera like at Bulls games.

I liked it, have heard much worse. The flyby was awesome, especially since I didn't have Opening Night tix, one of my highlights

I Alice Peacock did a good job.

I thought it was acceptable. For me, though, nothing can ever compare to Wayne Messimer (spelling?) at the Chicago Stadium for a Blackhawks game.

Edit: Also, I'm out of the Yankee loop... who do they have sing the anthem? Or was it just a joke about spending money...

Wayne Messmer is the worst at the anthem, as he doesn't even bother to sing the song correctly.

I Alice Peacock did a good job. :smile:She started off poorly, but improved dramatically at the end... may have dropped an octive along the middle. To be quite honest, once the jets flew by, I completely forgot about the performance. That was awesome!

The anthem is one thing, but the lame music acts that are playing on the field close to game time are atrocious. They don't belong on the field, and the acts the Sox have had aren't really good to listen to anywhere. This joke has to stop now.

But I must say, Lou Rawls performance during the World Series has to be one of the best!

Patrick Blackwell is the best. There is no argument. If it were up to me, he'd do it for every game. He's no-nonsense and has an unbelievable voice

She did go noticeably off key during the song so I don't know how anyone could say she did a good job. But, to look on the bright side, she wasn't nearly as bad as Liz Phair.
I don't care if someone's a big name or not, but I'd prefer a competent singer. I've heard plenty of people do it without going off key.

Edit: Also, I'm out of the Yankee loop... who do they have sing the anthem? Or was it just a joke about spending money...I'm pretty sure they use that ex-cop with the opera voice - at least that's who I always see there. But it might only be on special events: opening day, etc.

I'll never forget when I was real little I was watching the Sox on TV. This was probably very early 80's. A big black lady was singing it and she took FOREVER to sing it. I'm pretty sure the crowd starting booing about half way through it. I was probably only 7 or so but I'll never forget that.

Was he the lead in the musical "Showboat"? If so, he does have an unbelievable voice. I'd vote for him!

I don't care if a throng of scraggly, diseased alley cats sings songs before the game. I came to watch baseball.

I totally agree with that. That is what I was about to say. I would have him do every game. That is the way the National Anthem is suppose to be sung.
