YES!!!!!!! They finally have Ricks listed as a catcher. Ive been saying thats where he belongs for the longest time now. He will serve well both there and as a back up 3b/2b.

I didn't hear anything about him being released, and although he isn't on W-S's roster, I'd be a little surprised if he was placed on Birmingham's.

Keep your eyes open for when Birmingham and Kannapolis release their rosters in the next day or 2 and you should have your answer.

Is that Chris Sabo´s son?

Also, where is Lumsden going to be? Did anyone see what the radar readings were him in his ill-fated start?

He was throwing his cutter HARD, around 93 occasionally touching 96. He has some rediculous natural movement on his fastball.

He will be in Bham.

Maybe we lucked out and Lumsden will turn out to be the better big league pitcher than Gonzalez. Between Liotta, Cotts and Lumsden, we have some very good LHP depth, not to mention the fact that Thornton has openly speculated about starting as well...although it obviously won´t be in Chicago, except as an emergency fill-in or spot starter situation like McCarthy found himself in last night.

There´s also a possibility Rusty Tucker could reach his potential again after another full year of rehab after his surgery. I´ve pretty much written off Munoz and Malone, but I still have hope for J. Lopez and Reynoso.

Is Kris Honel on the shelf for the season or they pondering surgery options?

Dont write off Malone as he is just reaching the time where a pitcher coming back from his surgery gets his full stuff back. He was repotedly throwing 94 this spring, and while his control lacks, it very well could come together along with his health.

Is Stumm still with the organization or is he officially Jason Dellaero-ed?

I just hope Malone can figure out this whole control thing....if nothing else, with Thornton, Logan, Malone, Tucker, Reynoso...we´ve got an arsenal of lefties who can get it up there well enough.

I wonder why the minor league staff has had such difficulty with power pitchers like Myette, Kip Wells, Brian West, Rocky Biddle, Rob Purvis, Bajenaru, Adkins, Felix Diaz, Barcelo, Malone, Stumm, Rauch (well, maybe a finesse pitcher ala Garland), Danny Wright, Ginter (not a true power, pitcher, kind of a tweener)...

Seems like we´re better with youngsters like Garland, Buehrle, McCarthy, Fogg, Bradford, Majewski, Guerrier, Josh Stewart...yeah, McCarthy can get it up to 92 or 93, but he´s not a classic power pitcher. Maybe if he adds another 20-30 pounds...but even Garland, with the additional MPH on his FB, is not a high strikeout guy.

Honel already had surgery. They are hoping for him to be back around June/July, IIRC.

Sort of unusual, but the way things are shaping up now, it looks like we could have 4 LH starters in Bham and 3 in Charlotte. Malone, Liotta, Lumsden, Rodriguez in Bham, and Munoz, Phillips, and Lubisich. Does anyone know if we retained Ulacia, because he would make it an even four at both levels?

I hope they're not being too ambitious with Gomes. He must have had a decent spring to start in hi-A. He's not that old, there would have been no shame in starting him out at Kanny.

I'd say W-S has the fewest prospects in our system this year. In my opinion Gomes, Lucy, and maybe Cook and Ricks are positional prosepects and Russell, Harrell, Whisler, Egbert and Torres are pitching prospects. Not too much else there. I'm interested to see Kanny's roster which should be loaded with promise.

The only guys Ill be watching on this team are Lucy, Gomes, and Whisler.... moreso on the Gomes and Whisler part... and like someone else said low A should have a few more high potential guys than high a or double a this season.

For some reason, MiLB.com has a different roster than the official Warthogs site:

http://www.minorleaguebaseball.com/app/milb/stats/stats.jsp?t=t_ros&cid=580

http://www.warthogs.com/content/Team_Info/index.asp

Anyone know why that might be?

Just slow/poor data entry by milb.com.

Whisler is meat.

Yeah, because lefties that throw low-to-mid-90's should always be written off after a season and a half...
