In reference to the post with the links to the stories about 1918 and 1960.
Is anybody besides me tired of these lame comparisons with the past? I
enjoy baseball and White Sox history as much as anyone, but it is getting
ridiculous, to be sure. This is a new year and a different team. What
happened in 1918, 1984 and 1960 is irrelevant.

I suppose I should look on the bright side. At least they aren't making
any more comparisons with the 1969 Cubs. :D: Don't Look Back!!!

Not in the a headline, but the Cubune today twice refers to the White Sox in an article about a priest currently charged with molestation:

"McCormack was athletic and had a passion for sports, especially the White Sox and the Notre Dame teams, said fellow student Rothwell Floyd."

That pissed me off just as much as I was pissed off around Soxfest 2004 when the Tribune did a story on a suicide bombing group of palestinians in Israel and one of them was wearing a White Sox jacket. You have to notice these things as an editor.

An unnamed source sent us a picture of Jim Thome's neck in college, as a member of the Cleveland Indians, & now a member of the White Sox. We feel we owe it to the Chicago community to investigate these allegations that Thome's career was built on performance enhancers.

Overheard at the game last night, "he hasn't hit a homerun since last June! Did you read about his spring? The ball traveled 431 ft last night .. in the rain! Is there any doubt he's juiced?"

Cy Maddux Returns!

The surest sign that this is the Cub year to win a World Series is Greg Maddux's re-emergence as a dominant pitcher in the National League. On his 40th birthday he showed the world why he's playing to win a championship as a Cub.

South-siders nearly fall

Brain Anderson can't catch a fly ball in CF. It dropped out of his glove. Bobby Jenks then serves up a 2 run homer cutting their 3 run lead to 1. A good team would have taken Jenks to the cleaners but we are talking the Tiggers at home. A good team they are not. South siders sqweaked by with a must-win. Had they lost that one it would have spelled disaster for the rest of their April.

It's often been said you can't win a championship in April but when you are an over-achieving club like they are you can certainly lose one. A bad start almost certainly means a below .500 record.

Judy's Back! 13.94 ERA

We tried to tell fans of the south siders all along that Jon Garland's 2005 year was a fluke. It was a product of luck combined with Rowand making web gems for nearly all his starts. This is what happens when you make things difficult for an over-achiever: failure.

Only now that failure comes with a high prices tag: $29 mil/3 yr. After 2 lousy starts we can now declare that Judy's back! That's been Garland's nick name for years because when you've got a 2.52 WHIP, a .442BA & 13.94 ERA you're not exactly intimidating. You look so weak & frail you can barely average 5 ip / start.

But as it has been so often through Judy's .. err. Jon's career he get's solid run support to where despite being the worst pitcher out there today he'll walk away with the win. I think even fans of the south siders would agree Jon's the weakest 18 game winner in the game today.

Better to be Lucky ..

Some of us still don't believe the White Sox won the 2005 World Series. They certainly don't play like they did. As there series wrapped up in Detroit today at least a few scouts felt Detroit gave it away more than the White Sox earned it. They went as far to say the recent White Sox success is all about luck.

They say it started in 2004. When a lame duck Ordonez refused a generous offer from Kenny Williams. Had he not refused no one believes the White Sox would have even been in the 2005 World Series. He should have accepted. He will eventually make more with the Tiggers but he had idea at the time that would be the case. There would good odds he would never be the same player again.

So without Ordonez clogging up the payroll the White Sox had money to spend. Not just on the off-season but even during mid-season trades. That's why they were able to trade Loiza for Contreras. That's why they were able to trade & sign for Freddy Garcia.

Had Carlos Lee run hard in that Twins series is not likely Williams deals him for Pods & Vizcaino. One play changed the franchises history. How lucky can you get? The trading of Carlos Lee brought Pods, AJ, Iguchi, El Duque, & Vizcaino to the White Sox. Maggs rejection brought Dye. There's no way the White Sox sniff the post-season if that doesn't happen.

Yet these were all very high risk moves that had slim chances of improving the club. That's why it's always better to be lucky than good.

I can't believe it! They practically stole my headline!

Don't they know this is a sarcastic thread designed solely to show their bias towards the White Sox? Don't they know this thread is all about portraying them as an illegitimate source for White Sox news?

What is even more shocking (though not surprising) is Zambrano was roughed up badly yesterday. Yet you don't seen any headline like this.

It's worse than my make-believe headline because they stretched Garland's troubles to THE ENTIRE STAFF! That's just complete bull****!

Sox begin 9 game homestand that will make or break their season.
-with the Sox coming off their lucky, and we do mean lucky sweep in Detroit, the fate of the season is now at stake.
-Morrissey: "If the Sox do not go 9-0 on this homestand, then the season is doomed to fail. What kind of team would they be if they can not defend their homefield??"

Despite dropping series to the new BIG RED MACHINE, Cubs are poised and ready for the playoffs.
-Morrissey: "Let's get real. The Cubs fought with tremendous fervor against the likely National League Champs. If just 1 or 2 pitches are different in both games, the Cubs EASILY sweep the series. Sure the 2 loses were by the scores of 8-1 and 8-3, but those scores are not telling. The only game that was a no doubt win was game 2 in which Maddux DOMINATED the Reds and never gave them a chance".

Mother Nature having more impact on games then teams??
-In the last few Sox/Cubs games, the weather conditions were less then idea. Was this the reason for the games outcomes?
-Inside: Cubs are victims of terrible conditions at Wrigley. No namers like Arroyo and washed-up hitter Adam Dunn hit pop-ups that get carried by a fierce wind to the stands.
-"Everyone knows that Wrigley is one of the hardest parks in baseball to hit homeruns. The fences are some of the deepest in the game, and the walls are almost as tall as the green monster in that one city" says Cubs SUPERFAN Ryan "Rolling" Green who was in attendance with his fellow frat members and sister sorority from Wisconsin University. Green added, "Did you see Derrreck Lhee hit that BOMB in that opening series vs. The StLouis Carbinals??? That was a BOMB MAN! Of course, I didn't see it because we arrived late at the game because our Old Style drinking game ran long at The Cubby Bear."

-On the other side of town, Sox unfairly use wind conditions to their advantage.
-not just in 1 game, but the Sox have been incredibly fortunate to have the weather conditions on their side.
-Morrissey: "Sure Thome is tearing the cover off the ball, but just look how lucky he has been! In the Opener vs. Cleveland, he hit his first. However, the rain was pouring down and it is clear that the ball had slipped from the pitcher's hand. The next day, he hit a nearly 500 foot blast. However in this particular circumstance, the sun heated Thome's bat and made the air lighter, thus resulting in a homer. All experts agree that had that been hit at Wrigley in conditions befitting of actual baseball, it would have been a lazy flyball".

Hate mail from S Siders

Today we have received e-mails from disgruntled south siders saying we have unfairly covered the White Sox series in Detroit. To this we respond: Get ready for more of the same. When you are coming off a fluke season (18 wins by Garland :o:, yeah right!) you should expect to be scrutinized for every detail. You always complain about not getting enough attention. Now we give you more than you can stomach. Do you really expect us to write feel good stories about your team? It's not America's team! Nobody feels good about you! Try as you might you'll never be loved like the Cubs.

So if you were expecting a headline like (4 in a row!) or Sox on a Roll! Fughedabutit! We're not even going to track your wins this year. Only your loses. If we can find any steroid angle at all on you bet your bottom dollar you'll be reading about it. Anything less than a perfect game will keep our Cub fans in tune to reading about your failures in games. So I suggest you start playing like World Champions. That is if you're capable of that. We don't think you are.

Six year old Sox fan steps on crack, breaks Cub fan's back

39 year old White Sox fan Frank "Lug" Beergut watched with pride and
glee as his six year old son Frank, Jr. walked on a south side sidewalk
and jubilantly proclaimed "step on a crack, break a Cub fan's back!"
and proceeded to stomp down on several sidewalk cracks as hard as
his fat little feet would allow.

"I'm proud of him!" bellowed Beergut at the top of his voice. "I taught
him well! My boy is going to be a typical White Sox fan just like me!"
Beergut then proceeded to strip and stand shirtless in the rain.

Countdown to Elimination: 65

In hopes of goading Frank Thomas into another episode of bash the White Sox we found something better: a team destined to keep them out of the post season. Enter the 2006 Minnesota Twins. In our opinion this team already exceeds the White Sox in pitching prowress when you combine their rotation & bullpen. But we now believe it will outscore the White Sox as well.

So how's our new countdown work. Pretty simple stuff. The Indians won 93 games last year. When you include the Twins that's two American League Central division foes expected to win their season series against the White Sox. That means 69 losses should be the elimination mark for the White Sox. With 4 already in the books just 65 more to go. Join us in the fun!

White Sox well off 2005 pace

After 9 games in 2005 the White Sox were leading the American League Central division with games resembling dominant pitching matchups. Those days have long since past. Both the starter's era & bullpen era's are way off the mark, & the same goes for their whip's & their baa. Needless to say that's why the Indians are leading the division & the Twins are looking to leapfrog the White Sox.

No where do you get the real story on baseball in the American League Central like you do here at the Tribune. We pull no punches & are not swayed by happy faces. We cover the White Sox like fire ants on sugar cubes. We're not shy to crawl up their ass to see what we find there.

American Idol: Cubs

If it's a feel good story you're looking for then stick to our coverage of the 2006 Chicago Cubs. Murton, Pierre, Jones, Lee, Ramirez, Barrett, Zambrano, Maddux, etc. The stars come out at Wrigley because the Cubs are the stars. Nobody has better guest stars than the Cubs very own Kerry Wood & Mark Prior. It's all good baby! The Cubs are like the American Idol story of Major League Baseball with Murton hailed as it's newest star.

Hopefully Lady luck will defect from the S Side to the N Side so that the most popular team in the world can celebrate with it's fans. It won't just be a parade in Chicago. They'll have parades in NYC, LA, Omaha, Des Moines, Miami, & just about every city in America. In fact when the Cubs win the World Series just about every city in the world from Cuba to Beijing
will be celebrating with the Cubs. Baseball would quickly surpass soccer as the world's favorite sport.

There's no doubt about it. A Cubs World Series will mean a better America, a better Latin America, & a better world for all to enjoy.

Cubs Prevail over Pirates

Other than making it interesting the Pirates never threatened the Cubs as they carried their hot bats to Pittsburgh. As expected when the Cubs are in town the Pirates had one of their best crowds of the year. Even Pirates fans were heard saying, "Cubs are good for baseball. They are one of best road draws in baseball. That tells you how popular they are. To be honest we're a little jealous. They're like the prom queen of the dance & the Yankees are the prom king."

Chi Sox era's skyrocketing!

First Garland, then Vazquez prompting one to ask the question is Buehrle next? We all know that the Cell is a band box that pretty much says I exist for muscle bound pill poppers to hit my concourse. Again 2005 was a fluke. The odds of these 5 guys pitching like that at the cell are astronomically low. White Sox fans should best prepare themselves of a non-fluke year in 2006.

With 7 homeruns in 12 games White Sox DH Jim Thome is on pace for 94 HRs. In comparison Cubs 1B Derrick Lee is on pace for 44 HRs. Talent of juice?

First Place Cubs!

The Cubs LH starter Glendon Rusch pitched a gem today pushing the Cubs to an 8-4 record on the season. The rest of the National League Central is in their rear view mirror for the time being.

Second Place Sox

Mother nature provided a gift by letting the White Sox escape a Jays rally in a rain-shortened game. Detroit sent a message to the White Sox that the division is their's for the taking by beating the Tribe 1-0. Detroit is leading the American League Central. Not even the juice can help the White Sox overcome the Tigers this year.

Tensions were building between Tadahito Iguchi & Freddy Garcia when Iguchi failed to come up with a play on a ball that bounced in the water in the top of the 5th with the White Sox leading. Garcia lucked out to escape the inning after being tagged for 4 runs. Mother nature helped out when MLB called the game soon thereafter.

Sullivan: How Soldier Field was ruined and why this proves that US Cellular is the worst ballpark in the majors.

Somber Streak
- Thome Fails to Cross Home Plate against Twins
- Sox sure to lose in Seattle on Monday as team has baffling inability to win 9 in a row.

Another Cubs First: "Garage Sale" for the public.
- The Cubs' fan-friendly ownership does it again with innovative "garage sale" of memorabilia to the public.
- Look for classless Sox to copy this innovation soon.

New Bartman tape surfaces
"They are waging war against me, but they'll never take me alive" says dork who cost the Trib the bundle we would've made had the Cubs been in 2003 World Series. Now we're losing money and on the verge of selling thanks to him!

Ahem. Sorry.

President Bush alerted

Our guest panel of experts weigh in:

Lester Munson: "Why isn't this bastard dead yet?"

Jay Mariotti: "When I see that Bartman, I'm going to Bartman him within an inch of his Bartman for doing that Bartman. And then I'll demand that he stop putting Mark Bartman, Kerry Bartman and Derrek Bartman on the Bartman List. Excuse me. I need a Bartman."

Rick Telander: "Has this creature no idea the suffering, pain, agony and torture he has inflicted upon me? I mean, we're not talking pestilence, war, famine, disease or mass murder. We're talking about something far more important. How can you all possibly go on with your lives when I'm feeling this way? Have you no sense of perspective?"

Cubbies defeat a young, hungry up-start Marlins

Zambrano shows his mettle by punishing bat that was insulting him.

Morrissey: The comeback victory over a team of the calibur of the Marlins is surely proof that the superior ball-club plays on the North Side!!!

Zorn: I was dancing when Jones hit the game winning HR that I almost spilled my Starbuck's Grande Soy White Chocolate Mocha Caramel Ice Latte all over my brand new Brooks Brothers Sweater Vest.

Lowly White Sox have winning streak ended by Ex-Cub

Sox unable to beat old, underachieving ball club from rainy city in the Pacific Northwest.

Sullivan: The inability of the White Sox to win 9 games in a row is certainly a sign of bad things to come.

Downey: Sox pitcher McCallister, err. McMasters, err. Whatever his name is... humble personality will certainly not lead to success in the bigs unless he has the fire and passion for the game like the Cubs future Cy Young Award Winner, Big Z.

McGrath: The rumors that the White Sox won the 2005 Championship are simply not true. Just like the rumors that the more beloved Cubs are for sale.

Sox hitting barrage arouses suspicion around the league
Mariners, scientists baffled at 'inhuman' power of Sox lineup
"I'm clean, man. [Screw] you!" said Paul Konerko as he hurled a locker room chair at a wall.
"I can' essplain it," said Ozzie Guillen. "All I know ees my player have a lot more hair and acne than last year and we winning games."

Cubs power display arouses suspicion...of greatness!
"You know," said auburn-haired hunk Matt Murton, "it's nice when a victory brings euphoria to millions. It's a great feeling. And we never cheat."
"I'm not worried about the other team in town, jive turkey--I worry about us," said Dusty Baker. "If they want to destroy the integrity of the game down there, that's their prerogative, man. I'm not pointing fingers. But it's like watching a Nintendo game with that team, dude. There's no way they can be that good."

Cubs Fans say Boo Jones!

Of course that's all sarcasm. In today's Cubune they (naturally) talked about the 42% that didn't think it right to boo. The used GIANT text in today's paper edition talking up the plurality -- nevermind that an overwhelming majority said Jones had the boos coming.

The editors at Cubune sports have no shame... just another unbiased circumstance, I'm sure.
