Since we have a who hits first homerun thread, I thought I'd post this since our team is built on pitching.....

My vote

Vazquez vs. KC on the 8th

Seconded.

KC ****ing sucks but now they have over the hill veterans to play in place of the rookies that usually kill us.

I am jumping on the motion of Buehrle on opening day. Followed by Garcia and Contreras in games 2 and 3.

You guys all stole my answer!!:(:

How about if ALL the games are complete game shutouts?!? Is that too much to ask?

The question should be, "Who pitches the first NON-complete game shutout?"

I predict Ditka will throw out the first ball sometime this year and throw a CG shutout.

One year when I was in high school, I think Wilbur Wood opened the season with three complete-game shutouts.

This year Kansas City is a good bet as the opponent.

I looked it up. Actually, Wilbur Wood opened the 1972 season giving up one run in KC in nine innings before being lifted for a pinch hitter in a game the Sox would go on to lose. I was at the home-opening 14-0 shutout by Wood, and he pitched two more shutouts, going the distance in each, before getting his first loss, against the Tigers.

Shutouts and complete games didn't used to be as big a deal as they are today.
