I am a suburb guy, so I do not know the city very well. Due to the traffic, I will be taking 90 East to 294 South, then to 55 east, and get off at Ashland South. I was just wondering if anyone knew if there were any good restaurants and/or bars between 55 and 35th street? Due to the weather, I think I will not be tailgating on Sunday. Any assistance would be appreciated.

If you like VERY COLD beer and GREAT Italian food, you might check out Bertucci's. Go south on Ashland to Archer and turn Left (east). Take Archer all the way down to Canal and turn Right (south). Go two or three blocks south on Canal and turn Left on 24th Street.
THAT'S STREET NOT PLACE.

Bertucci's is at the corner of 24th Street and Princeton Avenue

I love Schaller's! The food is tops and the drinks are generous. However, on opening day, it may be a bit congested to enjoy a leisurely meal.

I like to stop at Freddie's on 31st and Union during the work week if I can find a place to park a truck.

The Schaller's are FAR from Cubs fans. You are probably thinking about Jay Schaller, who likes to say that he's a Cubs fan just to be antagonistic. Trust me, I saw the tears of joy coming from Mr. Schaller's eyes on the night that the Sox beat the Angels for the ALCS.

If you like Mexican, there are several good restaurants just north of 55 and east of Ashland. In particular I am partial to Neuvo Leons on 18th about 1 block east of Ashland.

In fact, I am leaving to go eat there in about 20 minutes.

Thank you. The Windy City Sox Fans have been meeting at Schaller's several times a year for over 10 years now. You can bet we wouldn't be doing that if the owners were Cubs fans.

Gene, please know what you're talking about next time.

Read it in both the Suntimes and Tribune in 03 and 04.
If he's BSing, then he's doing it kinda retarded.

Schallers Cub fans? This is April 1st.

Nice to keep the stereotype of Southside dining alive by advising stopping over by the Domnicks for soup.
