From White Sox.com, story by Scott Gregor:

"I talked to [head trainer Herm Schneider], he text-messaged me and said [Podsednik's] ready to go," said Guillen. "But besides that we have a Plan B. It's pretty good news. We're going to see how he feels, but he'll come back to play and he'll lead off."

Guillen felt reasonably secure that Podsednik would be back when the season opens Sunday night and that he would be in the lineup despite the expected less-than-ideal baseball weather.

By the way in the minor league game today Pods went 3-6.

I want to see the healthy Pods of early 2005, not the gimpy one who couldn't steal a base to save his life. If he isn't 100%, I'd sit him and wait.

My feeling is that Pods is going to have to play with this. That it's never going to be 100% so he may as well get his ass out there and start adapting. If the trainers say he can't hurt himself more then it's time to play.

Even though he may never be 100%, what he does on the bases is a whole hell of a lot better than what other teams have.

Excellent news.

Steal bases? Pods is part of our Murderer's Row. Last time we saw the Sox at Comiskey, Pods was trotting off yet another home run........

Knowing that my favorite sox player is ok to go is making me salivate even more about sunday night!

Seriously, this is great news. Raising the flag without Pods in the lineup wouldn't seem quite right. I mean, yeah, he'd be there still, but he deserves to play that day. His fist pump and scream as he rounded first base after ending game 2 of the world series tears me up everytime I see the replay.

Count me among the (paranoid?) group that would rather see him fully fit before playing.

Sure, he OUGHT to be there on Opening Night, for Sentimental Reasons, but this game actually matters; for the 2006 Season.

Sentiment should play NO part in filling out Sunday's Roster. If Pods ain't fully fit-to-go, I don't want him starting.
Particularly in the sorts of temperatures typical on a 'balmy' April night in Chicago.

If you are a speedster with a dodgy hamstring, and you come back too quickly from an injury, you just go straight back to the DL - but with a worse injury.

Just ask Liverpool/Real Madrid/Newcastle/England soccer star Michael Owen.

As long as they insist he is healthy enough to play & not pushin it, VERY good news. Pods is the SPARK of the team for sure. He deserves to be at the game for the festivities too.:gulp:

I just dont want him aggravating it by slipping on a wet field with all the rain moving in.

yes! i'm so glad he's gonna play! but, i hope he's completely ready, cos i don't want him to injure himself and we won't have him for weeks. i'd rather he not play if he's hurt and we get him back 100% later in the season.

If he's not ready to go, I don't think they'd announce and have him play. They're not the Cubs.
