Anyone thinking of getting one of the new 1906 Replica Jerseys (http://shop.mlb.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2185794&clickid=body_rv_img)?

Do you think it's overpriced for what is, essentially, a cream-coloured Jersey with a couple of numbers on the back, or is it a fantasic way to commemorate the 1906 Sox team across the City?
(Did those 06 Sox do 'anything notable' btw?)

Thoughts?

Even though I know what it means, and every White Sox fan should know too, the "C" in Chicago baseball is too closely associated with another team for my tastes.

Yep, I don't like the "C". You would have to explain the jersey to most. I do really like the numbers though.

For the ultimate Sox jersey collector, it is kind've cool. However, most people would think you were wearing a retro Cubs jersey rather than a Sox jersey. The Sox haven't worn a jersey like that in 100 years and I nobody is alive to remember it despite the fact that we'll be wearing it on Sunday home games this year. I bought an authentic 1917 jersey back in 2001, but for the price, I think I'm definitely passing on this one.

The 1917 jersey is a work of art.

...it is kind've cool. Well, I guess since so many people write "should of" on here, I guess we can have "kind've"

Yeah, no way would I wear one of those. Everybody, and I mean everybody, around here would think it was a Cubs jersey.

For 140 big ones, it's not worth the hassle of explaining. For 80 or 90, maybe.

I like it, though. Wear a decent hat with it and the 'identity' issues should subside. Or wear it on the same day as the throwbacks are out (when will they be?)

Here's another link (http://baseballhalloffame.org/exhibits/online_exhibits/dressed_to_the_nines/detail_page.asp?fileName=al_1906_chicago.gif&Entryid=93) for those curious. Those road unies are SWEEEEET. I believe they have a few framed ones in the stadium club.

Of course, there were no numbers on the backs of the 1906 jerseys. Surely that won't stop people from making one up for Ed Walsh and running his name over the top. This would be a replica of an occasional 2006 jersey, and it's overpriced.

Are the Sox going to wear the 1906 ones this Sunday? Or will they start that up the next Sunday home game?

I purchased this one. I thought it was cool. 1931 Road.

The road jersey is vastly superior and they should have produced it instead:

Wouldn't be kind of silly to wear a road jersey at home? Just a thought....

They could still sell both jerseys. It would be great if they wore the 1906 road jerseys for the series at Wrigley.

I think (please note the emphasis) that MLB only allows one alternate jersey such as the 1906 jersey per year. If the Sox were to wear another jersey on the road, that would have to come from the Cubs (say if they're doing a "Turn Back the Clock Day").

That's actually a pretty cool idea.

I'll probably be picking up the 1906 cap to add to my collection, but I'm gonna pass on the jersey.

A little off topic, but is anyone familiar with the Mounted Memories team plaques? They are made every time a team makes the playoffs. I have plaques for 1917, 1959, 1983, and 2005. I plan to eventually pick up the 1919, 1993, and 2000 team plaques. Does anyone know if there is a 1906 team plaque? I've searched but can't find one.

How do the Astros get away with 9 different uniforms?

Boy the Astros came a long way from the late 80's jerseys, where they only had the one uniform for both home and road. That was sad.

About the '06 jerseys, the home one looks like a Cub jersey, but the road '06 jersey looks a lot like the 1976 road uni, sans the white cap.

I hope they don't wear them for the opener, I don't think they will, not on ESPN!

All jerseys are ridiculously, ungodly overpriced, so yeah. I don't like it at all...people will see the C and think it's a cubs jersey. Hell, if you showed that to me blindly, I wouldn't be sure myself...

Most people probably take better care of their clothes than me, but the idea of spending 100 some odd dollars on a white shirt makes my skin crawl...:o: That's coffee drip city...

Agreed. I considered it, but when I saw the jersey up close, it kept reminding me of a cub jersey. NO THANKS

Coffee-drip city?

Surely you mean Beer-drip city?!?

Or Hot Dog Mustard/ketchup drip city?

I think it's pretty cool. Some people who aren't into baseball might think it's a Cubs jersey, but eh. All that matters to me is I know it's a Sox jersey, and if I were wearing it and someone asked about it I would be happy to explain.

However...I'm not buying it at that price, and I couldn't find a kid's sized version of this either (granted I didn't look hard), so a. too expensive and b. too big.

I hear you loud and clear on that. Cant figure out why coffee, egg mcmuffin grease, mayo and such always find their way onto my jerseys, but not on a plain t shirt or painting clothes...:(:
