All I was thinking is that was a very cheap play for spring training. Henry Blanco may be the worst hitter in the league right now. Maybe he's jealous of the best average hitter on the World Champions.

Grissom's crappy arm was making a throw to the plate, but Podsednik had already scored and the ball arrived about 2 seconds later. The cheap part was that Blanco didn't have the ball yet and was trying so hard to injure a player during SPRING TRAINING.

Blanco had his body blocking the plate ready to field the throw and then he blocked it without the ball when Podsednik crossed the plate.

Is Lee still in the game for the Cubs? If so it's time to bring in Jenks and have him let his fastball fly for the first time this spring training...right at Lee's head. And then when they throw out Jenks you apologize, say you're very sorry, bring in Thornton, and have him throw at the next guy. You hurt one of ours, we hurt two of yours.

JUribe1989
03-27-2006, 04:10 PM
Then Maddux sends Dye a message pitch that hits him? The only message that sent was that Maddux is still a jagbag during Spring Training. Don't worry Greggy, Dusty will pitch you every third day to get you back to your 14-win season milestone that you were going for last year!

That means Maddux threw 0 pitches to Konerko who hit between Thome and Dye.

The play at the plate wasn't dirty. Blanco was waiting for a throw. It's not his fault the throw was pathetic. Pods seemed fine after getting up.

I remember watching a Braves / Phillies game a few years back when Paul Byrd was pitching for the Phils. He hit a couple of guys on the Braves (one with his 84 mph fastball and another with a hanging curve that didn't curve); and the next time Byrd came up to the plate Henry Blanco, who was catching for the Braves that day, got in Byrd's face and acted like he wanted to fight him. I don't remember anyone being ejected, but the home plate umpire had to break them up...

I had to listen to a Flubs fan tell me how the Flubs are supposedly better than the Sox. I then asked her how Prior and Wood were doing on the DL (which she didn't seem to believe they were hurt bad). She then said the Sox shouldn't have won the WS. I asked her if the Cubs had won one since 1906? She said no, but they looked good doing it then? I'm like ***!?!?

Now I have to hear about what a jagbag Blanco is. Would be nice to see a rumble between the Sox and Cubs...I don't think any of them could take Jenks.

Typical Cub fan . . . doesn't even know the team's history.

The Cubs LOST in 1906 (to the Sox) and then won in 1907 and 1908.

Since then, the Cubs have won zero WS but lost seven times, most recently in 1945.

Since 1945, the Cubs have won their division only three times.

I like how Cub fans are getting a kick out of Greg Maddux's original non-denial quote of "Who is Mark Buehrle?" (Of course Buehrle never said Maddux by name.)

Mark was last year's all-star game starter and winner and became the first pitcher in the history of baseball to start and win a World Series game along with save a game in the World Series.

Who is Mark Buehrle? The better question is "who was Greg Maddux?"

I cant believe how many responses this thread has got. I think we're over reacting here, the throw was off the mark but if it was a halfway decent throw the play would have been close. And what does Blancos abilitys as a player have to do with the right to block the plate. If pudge does the exact same thing do we give him the benifit of the doubt? Think of it this way, say A.J. did the exact same thing and fans of the team he did it too acted the same way. What would we be saying????? "A.J. is a hard nose player and did what he was sopose to in order to prevent the run from being scored." Flame on.

Sorry as much as I'd like to gut the Cub SOB's, I saw the play and there was nothing dirty about it. Blanco was cutting off the plate awaiting the throw. That's allowed.

Regarding Pods, according to a story on White Sox.com, he 'tweeked' (No not the South Park character!) his groin running from first to second on his double in the 3rd inning. He's listed as 'day to day' (so are we all!) Ozzie said he's working through scar tissue.

He was removed to be safe...no sense taking chances this late in the spring.
