This may be heresy, but I'm not sure I'm going to buy this. I don't like it that they didn't include all the games; I cheerfully would have paid more if they had.

When you guys get yours and watch it, it'd be great to hear whether you think it's worth it. Probably will depend on the bonus coverage.

Knowing the die hard that you are I can't believe you would not buy this, especially considering places like Wall Mart will have it for under 30. I must admit I'm not as obsessive with video as I used to be. There was a time (just a few years ago) I would watch the game with the finger on the record button just in case something exciting happened so I could watch it over and over and over again. Same with 83. I want as much coverage and wish I had the playoff games in my library. Anyway, I'll be sure to but it once it comes out so I'll be able to look back on it for years to come. I probably won't watch every game from 1st to the 9th but I'll be looking at a lot of the footage on cold winter days. I say buy it!

And I probably will, but it's unlikely that the Wal-Mart out here will have it. (Sad, but true.) So I'll either order it from Amazon or wait until I hit town for the COTC. Although the latter might not be a good idea since I'm planning to max out my card at Grandstand, so I'd have to ship some of this stuff back.

Now I've had a long, hard day, so I am going to do what I usually do to get back to bouncing off the satellites--watch the WS DVD, the Sox Pride DVD, and my tape of the parade and rally!

Unfortunately the games cannot be viewed with the radio synced in. It makes me so mad. Joe Buck is an idiot! And during the Boston game all those announcers are so biased toward the Red Sox it's disgusting.

I got it today and already watched the final Boston game, the final Angels game and the final WS game.

El Duque's performance in that Boston game is just about one of the most amazing things a pitcher has ever done. AWESOME!

Overall, the DVD is good, but I wish it had an option for Rooney and Farmer. Oh well.

I got mine in the mail yesterday from deep discount dvd. The stat sleeves are actually really cool in that they have the box score and random tidbits like game temperature, attendance, etc.

I'm annoyed that it doesn't have the opening ceremony before game 1. It was one of the greatest moments of my life and I was just hoping to see the team announced as the AL champs and see the stadium buzzing pregame. I guess thats what the World Series film is for, but I would have liked the pregame video.

Also it def does not have radio options. We're stuck with the television broadcasts for better or worse. But at least we can laugh at how damn stupid the ESPN crew was in their love of Boston. Chubby Berman practically called for the Red Sox comeback...

I made my sister watch the bases loaded no out jam in the bottom of the 6th today (she hates baseball), and she was amazed... Its great to see again!

Just for the Champaign folks out there, last semester when I was looking to get the WS DVD and Sox Pride, they didn't have it, and when I called to ask why, they said that they are technically in the St. Louis market, so they don't carry too much White Sox stuff. On the bonus dvd you do indeed get Rooney and Farmer audio in-sync with the video. It is only for the last 3 outs of the final game however. But hey, you will have for all time Rooney's, "OUT! OUT! A WHITE SOX WINNER AND A WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP!"

are the games in 16:9 or 4:3?
4:3, letterboxed to widescreen ratio. What sense does THAT make? 4:3 only, but letterboxed only?!?!?

What's worse is that the games were originally broadcast in HD, so now that I've got a nice widescreen TV, I can't even GET the stupid things to zoom up. When I watch them and they're not all stretched, I'm not using over HALF of my screen?

Yeah, I posted a substantial rant about this in the other thread about the collectors set (its on the 5th page): http://www.whitesoxinteractive.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=68290&page=5&highlight=collectors+edition

The thing is, within 5 years, 4:3 TVs will be obsolete, so basically for the rest our lives we're going to have to watch this thing stretched on 16'9 screens. The problem is that it is not anamorphic wide screen, and so doesn't auto format to that ratio, hence . . . the stretching. Terrible long-term thinking on the part of A&E.

And as you said, what makes it even more maddening is that it was originally broadcast in anamorphic HD wide screen, and the sides were lopped for 4:3 televisions . . . . so this just boggles me.

In my opinion, its the worst of both worlds because not only is it 4:3, but its Letterbox . . . . so in 4:3 you get bars on top and bottom (the source of Lip's irritation), and in 16:9, you get stretching AND bars, so that it doesn't fit at all. Bizzare.

Lip Man 1

What do you expect? The 'movie' industry wants you to go out and spend a king's ransom getting a letterbox / widescreen TV. That's exactly the reason why for example, Hollywood Video does not offer any recent releases in fullscreen.

Like I said it doesn't take a genius (and God knows I'm not one...) to figure that out.

I do agree with you. But, my point is that it is NOT formatted for wide screen television at all. It is not anamorphic, like a movie dvd, so when you put this thing on wide screen it stretches the picture so that it looks crappy, as opposed to automatically adapting to fit the wider screen.

Not only are you pissed because of the bars on 4:3, but I am pissed because it isn't formatted for a wide screen TV either. Terrible.
