Time for a preseason prediction: the top five on the staff in wins, in descending order. You don't have to predict the number of wins unless you want to.

Mine:

1) Buehrle - time for a 20-win season.
2) Garcia - best year as a Sox coming up.
3) Vazquez - will establish himself.
4) Garland - will not repeat the year he had, should still win 14-15.
5) Contreras - age & contract status make 30+ starts unlikely.

Buehrle--benefits from more run support and wins 20 (finally)
Contreras--expect a consistent season on par with 2d half if he's healthy
Garland--the kid has arrived (16-18 wins)
Garcia--worried because he tired last season and had to start early for the WBC
Vazquez--best 5th starter in the MLB, but, still a fly-baller in the Cell...

The #5 spot should do for Vazquez what it did for Garland last season.

Buehrle (21-8)
Vazquez (17-8)
Contreras (17-8)
Garland (15-6)
Garcia (14-10)

Wow, that was hard. This is going to be a fun season!

Contreras-I think he's ready for a monster year
Buehrle-maybe this is the year he finally wins 20
Garland-I don't think last year was a fluke, should have another solid season
Garcia-Has looked really good so far in spring
Vazquez-Has had another good spring, looked real good agains the Cubs yesterday

To be honest, I think all of these guys are going to have good years and you could come up with any order for the last 3. 15 wins each isn't out of the realm of possibilty for them.

Garland - 18-12

Very tough question, I'll say they'll all just tie with 20 W's. haha.

I think Vazquez will have trouble adjusting to the team, but will be very good for a long stretch midseason. I think he'll have the fewest wins though.

I think Buehrle should have the most wins every season, he just has weird stuff happen to him, close losses or bad defense.

Contreras
Buehrle
Garcia
Garland
Vazquez

But they'll all be very close. I'd be very happy to see Garland at the top of the list. After getting confidence last season, there's no reason he can't do it this season. He has the arm and throwing style that will help him get more decisions than anyone on the team.

Contreras 19 -- He pitched like a true ace in the 2nd half
Garland 18 -- He just finds ways to win, even in his 5.00 ERA days. He'd still pick up 10-12.
Buehrle 18 -- He's the man, what else is there to say.
Garcia 16 -- People have been projecting that huge season for a couple years now. I think we've seen what Garcia can do.
Vazquez 14 -- The wildcard. He's shown flashes of brilliance and flashes of mediocrity. He's potentially an ace for most teams in the major leagues. We shall see.

You do realize that's 105 wins from the starters alone right? I'll take it.

Buehrle - 21
Contreras - 18
Garland - 15
Garcia - 14
Vazquez - 14

Still extremely optimistic, but less so.

Yeah, I realize that, It's just seems that there weren't enough people being extremely optimistic as compared to those being extremely negative.

Who was being extremely negative?

Extremely negative would be only three starters in double figures.

Time for a preseason prediction: the top five on the staff in wins, in descending order. You don't have to predict the number of wins unless you want to.

1) Contreras - (21-7) - despite having some inconsistent starts last year that bloated his first-half numbers, he was the best pitcher in baseball for the second half of last season

2) Buehrle - (18-10) - he's consistent and goes deep into games giving himself a chance to earn a lot of vistories he otherwise wouldn't get
3) Vazquez - (17-10) - when he is bad, whoa is he bad, but can be lights-out the next start...
4) Garcia - (16-10) - throws a lot of long balls, seems to lose focus in non-big-games
5) Garland - (15-12) - ground ball pitcher in a small ballpark, but will the league re-adjust and figure him out this year? If not, could be an 18-20 game winner.

agree 100%. Contreras will win 20, Buehrle won't (but he'll be close - 18), Garcia at 16, Garland & Vazquez tied with 15.

but still, 84 wins from your starting rotation? awesome.
