Despite winning the World Series in 2005, the White Sox are still not able to get the heavy-extra Media Coverage the Cubs were able to enjoy for the last 2 decades, despite having some of their worst records in team history.

Todays Trib mentions an "out of town reporter" asking Ozzie if the SOX stature in Chicago has been raised, with Ozz saying not yet. Wouldve been nice if the Trib couldve separated itself from the Cubs and acknowledged the huge disparity in coverage over the last 2 decades, resulting in the amount of "fans" they actually have.

Chicago Tribune:
1 cub story
1 sox story
Chicago Sun-Times:
2 cub stories
2 sox stories

Standings as of Friday March 17th, 2006
Media-Owned, 4th place in 2005, 21 games out of 1st place Cubs 88
Underdog, Heavily Ignored, 1st Place in 05, World Series Champ SOX 92

The on-line Cubune is a virtual orgasm of Messiah-related stories. No World Champion White Sox stories on their web version's front page.

I can't wait for some Cub-holes to begin celebrating when they take the lead for good!

I find it completely unbelievable, the lust and unprofessionalism the Chicago Media has displayed over the years for the Cubs. Exactly 2 years ago, the Cubs were fresh off a 5th place/95 loss season, yet they somehow and Inexplicably led the SOX by 62 stories. SIXTY-TWO STORIES.

Kiley predicted the Dusty Baker era to be heralded as the Camelot Years in Chicago Sports .............. what a bunch of bull-junk we've had to deal with here

The Sox could win the next 8 World Series in a row and the Cubs would still be on their tail in media coverage.

Thomas:

That's what happens when you decide to give the city to your rival and then say 'we don't compete against the Cubs...'

As PHG so correctly pointed out, the Tribune Company owning the Cubs is a major contributor BUT 'little' things like SportsVision, the 1994 labor impasse the 1997 White Flag Trade and the handling of Carlton Fisk in 1993 were major public relations disasters. They hurt the franchise badly in terms of the Chicago fan base.

Winning a World Series supercedes any of that.

With respect it doesn't. When you are talking about the last twenty seasons, one title isn't enough to reverse all that.

That is why it is so important for the Sox to get on a roll and do things like the Yankees, Braves, Astros and Cardinals have done...make the post season three times in the next five years, or six times in the next eight. With Brooks Boyar on line as marketing guy now, he and a run of Sox post season appearances can turn the tide.
