View Full Version : Ozzie joins Wrestling Fracas

03-15-2006, 01:59 PM
TNA issued the following press release this morning:
Smashes Simon Diamond with chair

The World Series Champion manager has jumped into pro wrestling – with smashing success.

Ozzie Guillen delivered a vicious left-handed homerun with a steel chair to the back of Simon Diamond after the TNA Wrestling hot-shot arrived unexpected and unwanted at the Chicago White Sox spring training facility in Tucson, Ariz.

Diamond took batting practice, wearing complete White Sox garb, then confronted White Sox catcher A.J. Pierzynski and Dale Torborg, the team’s strength and conditioning coach, with several teammates nearby.

Guillen came to the defense of his Sox, cracking Diamond with the chair. “Get off my field,” Guillen shouted at Diamond.

Full highlights of Guillen’s attack will air Saturday, March 18, on TNA iMPACT! (Spike-TV, 11 p.m. ET).

Diamond has had a running feud with Pierzynski and Torborg since last December. Diamond also took exception to TNA Wrestling executives presenting Pierzynski with a championship belt that the White Sox will award to their Player of the Game throughout the 2006 season.

“TNA is thrilled to work with the World Series Champion White Sox,” said TNA announcer Mike Tenay. “The no-limit attitude of TNA Wrestling parallels the mindset of the Sox, manager Ozzie Guillen and players like AJ Pierzynski. It’s been a great association to this point and we look forward to working with them throughout the 2006 season.”

TNA Wrestling features a host of mat veterans, such as Sting, Jeff Jarrett, Konnan and Team 3D. The TNA roster also boasts the rising stars, such as Samoa Joe, AJ Styles and Chris Sabin, among others.

TNA Wrestling will move to a Thursday Night primetime slot on Spike TV starting April 13.

Photos and video of Guillen’s chair-shot are available from TNA. And the actual chair used by Guillen, since signed by members of the White Sox and TNA Wrestling, soon will be auctioned by the Chicago White Sox to aid White Sox Charities. I love it. Can't wait to TIVO that thing and watch it over and over.

03-15-2006, 02:24 PM
What would his theme music sound like?

03-15-2006, 02:38 PM
I have to admit, this is awesome.

03-15-2006, 02:42 PM
This sounds funny...I'll have to check out the video.

I can just imagine Ozzie saying "Get off my field..."

That sound you heard was the national media cuing up their recorders for every time Ozzie goes nuts this year about anything.

Personally, I love it. I'm sure the usual suspects (Windsock, Flub fans, other holier-than-thou media sorts) will make a bunch of noise about it, but if it helps keep guys loose I don't see a problem here.

Of course, it's all better if as part of the deal we can rent out Samoa Joe for the next time someone tries to pull a Robert Fick in a fight.

I'd love to see him give all of the Cleveland Indians the Musclebuster!!

Didn't Shaq just hit Carlito from WWE with a chair a few weeks back? Seems to be a trend.

03-15-2006, 05:16 PM
can't seem to find the video or pics on TNA.

Was that chair a Rawlings Big Sit or a Louisville Sitter?

The scene is going to be on ABC 7 news real soon, tune in

EDIT: Just saw it, it was great. In brief, this TNA wrestler came to camp demanding a roster spot, and then started threating AJ and Dale, so AJ says something like "You wanna go?? Lets go" and squares off with him, then Ozzie comes from behind with a chair and wacks this guy in the back and starts yelling at him "Get off my field! Get outta here!". Best part is this whole thing happens when a bunch of guys from the team were just hanging out in a shaded area outside of the actual playing field. Anderson is there hanging out a few feet away and Thome is sitting on a picnic bench kinda close with this "What did i get myself into...These guys are nuts..." sorta look on his face. Should be on the news again at 10 if you wanna check it out..... I can see the Tribune headline about this tomorrow "Drunken SOX fan hitchhikes to AZ, invades ST practice demanding roster spot, gets beaten with a steel chair by Ozzie.

I saw this on ABC earlier, it was hilarious!

Does anyone know of a link to the video? I haven't seen it anywhere ABC's or NBC's site, and I searched YouTube as well.

YouTube.com White Sox/TNA related videos (http://youtube.com/results?search=white+sox+tna&search_type=search_videos&search=Search) - there's two of them, both feature Dale Torbog and AJP, nothing recent though.

65 other White Sox related videos (http://youtube.com/results?search=white+sox+&search_type=search_videos&search=Search) - tons of homemade videos from the parade, great stuff, some of the videos gave me chills!

This montage is pretty good (http://youtube.com/watch?v=pcJx318l8aQ&search=white%20sox%20). Good job Megan (whoever you are :D: )! Seeing all the ex-Sox in this thing really got to me. Frank, Aaron, Timo, Willie, Duque, Carl, and Geoff, man, I miss most all of them already lol. But to get better, you gotta make changes.

BTW Goon, I like your sig!

Welcome aboard.

How long until the media starts with the stories about the White Sox being more interested in wrestling and being televisions stars instead of defending their championship?

It could have been worse...

It could have been worse...

How is that worse? Any way to promote I think is great.

It looks like im alone, but im not a big fan of it. Dont get me wrong, i love wrestling, but this is getting crazy. We should focus on the upcoming season and defending OUR WORLD TITLE, instead of giving away somebody elses world title. Its a team effort, or at least its sposed to be, so lets give it to the whole team when they win, and dont give it when they lose. Speaking of losing, are they still going to give away the belt when we lose?

In 1974-5, Bill Mercer was a Sox radio announcer. He's primarily known as a longtime wrestling announcer, especially World Class (for the Von Erichs in Texas) from 1976 on. Eddie Einhorn ran his own wrestling federation (IWA) in 1975. There were plenty of NWA and AWA cards held at Comiskey Park over the decades. White Sox baseball and pro wrestling go together surprisingly well. I think Bill Skowron and Ted Kluszewski would have been great in wrestling, perhaps as The Killer Klumooskis, finishing opponents off with The White Owl Wallop, a hit to the head (out of the ref's view) with a frozen baseball supplied by their obnoxious manager Eddie "The Brat" Stanky.

check out TNA right now at Spike TV
they just showed a footage of Simon Diamond being hit by a folding chair from Ozzie

03-18-2006, 11:37 PM
I was just watching TNA Wrestling on spike TV and a wrestler ny the name of Simon Diamond showed up to spring training and confronted AJ. Brian Anderson, Joe Crede was also in the shot. They were exchanging some words and out of nowhere OZZIE GUILLEN hit the wrestler from behind with a steel chair and said " Get off my field you piece of ?" Pretty funny if I must say. They will probably show a replay of it on Monday if you want to check it out.

I almost pissed my pants watching that. Eventhough they're on some goofy wrestling show, I love the attention. :bandance:
