Much has been speculated as to what the Sox were going to do in regards to their new marketing campaign and slogan for 2006. Right now I CAN report that the TV campaign has started and DOES NOT reveal the campaign slogan YET. (That will come closer towards opening day.)

Monday I saw a really bad videotaped movie online of a spot we started running on last Saturday's game. Below is a link to a much better quality version that we just finished about two hours ago and is running on Sox games now. More are coming and when they are released I will try to post them here. Expect new outdoor boards next week. And as always all of this stuff can be seen at whitesox.com...enjoy! (WARNING: the file is 7MB so it can take a long time to download if you have a slow conection speed.)

Thanks for posting. I have to say, it's not a very innovative spot. Looks like a 30 second version of "Sox Pride", which we've all seen and heard a million times(the Konerko slam, the Uribe catch, etc.). Hope the others peak my interest.

I'm pretty sure I already know what it is, just need to keep it under wraps until I sell it in to the Sox and we execute against. But I can say that it will be something only the Sox can say...stay tuned.

WOW ringing endorsement! Thanks. The spot IS about Pride and since this is the first spot and people are getting excited about opening day, it made sense to us to start there. But what do we know? Of course there will be more and I think we have done a fairly good job of creating spots and ads that peak people's interest, but hey I can't please everyone everytime I write a spot. But for what it's worth most people like "If at first you suceed, REPEAT." In fact you're the first person that hasn't. But no worries, there will be more and if they don't peak your interest I guess there's always porn.

He doesn't realize that not everyone sits around and watches the Sox Pride DVD everyday. The people on this site aren't exactly the target audience for these spots because most of us already go to the games if we can without the ads.

I certainly like getting a sneak preview though:wink:

The point is, if we hated them, then Two x Four would know the non fan would probably not respond, but if they are well recieved here, than the reception would be different.

Oooo...we didn't do much last year to say something that no one else can...hmmm

I completely agree. But dismissing them because parts of the commercial are in a video he's seen many times isn't valid because not everyone has.

But I digress. It's a great spot. I like the color as opposed to the black/white of last year

Seriously, no sweat. Criticism is essential in my business and I put the spots and ads up here BECAUSE I get all kinds of comments. They make the work better. Mostly I responded to him to clarify our strategy. (Well that and it was the first time I figured out how to use teal!)

May I ask what your suggestions would have been? They just won the World Series, why not build on that?

BTW, I'll never get sick of any of those things, how can it bother you that much?

Hey, TwoByFour, I like your work, really. It definitely pumps me up and I don't know what the method is called but the way you blur/blacken the edges is altogether appropriate for the Sox. In the future, though, please don't sarcastically respond to constructive criticism. It's not like he was being an ******* or anything.

You know what Gavin you are 100% right and NoNeck and I have exchanged PM's and I have made my apologies. It is no excuse, but I have posted work here before and a few people have gone out of thier way to be rude. But like I said it was an overreaction, maybe because it was the first response of the thread.

Great spot...gave me chills. I like the use of the three different announcers for the slam, the walk-off, and Jenks' K - and then nothing for Uribe, just letting the play speak for itself (even though Rooney's 'did he catch it? he caught it!' bit is classic).

Ditto. The black and white was fine but got tired after a while. This color ad seems "cleaner".

Isn't it awesome how pumped up all us Sox fans here at WSI are to hear of the new slogan. I love it how everyone is trying to predict it and everything. There is only thing better then a new season coming and that is winning championships. And with a championship comes hype and we sure as hell have a lot of it.

BTW- Great commercial and I cannot wait for the new slogan.

Well, it's a lot better than the ones early last year that had Buehrle, Rowand, and some others dying!

Seriously though 2x4, great job, your Sox ads seem to keep getting better and better. I liked the background music, and while others may not have liked the repetitiveness, you have to use it. While there were a lot of great plays, it's not like there's an endless supply of great post season plays to choose from, and even less from the series. It actually will probably work in a positive anyway. Sports are about those big moments. It's moments like that that made Jordan a household name. Paulie's slam, Pod's walkoff, Uribe's Catch, etc are all plays that will forever be assosciated with the Sox. Seeing those plays over and over and over is why when I hear "the catch" I think of Juan Uribe and not Montana to Clark, and why it's a good thing to show them a lot. But I'm sure you know that.

Anyway, again, great spot!

I like it. We've all already seen the "If at first you succeed...", so it's going to have a bigger impact on the general public. I think it's going to play very well.

Well obviously it's got to be something to do with Mackowiak. No other team can say they aquired him.

hey twoxfour,

i really like the ad, and i can totally understand why you lashed out at noneck. you have done this board a lot of favors(free posters, advance ad "screenings"), and sometimes people need to step back and realize that these ads are probably intended for fans who haven't seen the pride DVD more than once, if at all.

i have seen the DVD, and i still loved the ad.

very nice production value.

Awesome work, 2x4. I really like the rotating graphics and morphing from film footage to a more stylized/Photoshopped screen capture look. I thought you also picked out some of THE key plays in the World Series, especially Pods pumping his fist after his Game 2 walkoff.

I hope the italics mean your joking instead of just placing emphasis? Cause I think you mean to type "concur" as in to agree, not "conquer" as in to defeat by use of force.

Twobyfour, your ad stinks and you shouldn't post this stuff on here. Now if you'll just send me the grinder rules posters I'll let it go (no teal needed). I personally enjoyed it along with the rest of your stuff. Work out something so we can get poster size grinder rules of our favorites, I would buy my favorites if I could, hell I'd end up buying them all just like world series merch..lol.

Unfortunately he can't. Contracts between (I believe) the White Sox and MLB prevent them from selling them.
