Sox fans who keep crying about ESPN, the Score, the Tribune, or any source of media that fails to acknowledge us and the fact that we are the champions everytime there is a baseball story being reported.

Listen, I wanted to win the World Series for US, you and I, the true Sox fans. I don't give two ****s what others think about us, how we won, the team lacking a superstar, us being lucky, etc.

We got the trophy, we got our place in history/in the record books, and we got to celebrate. That's all I wanted... in 2005. Now I want it again!

So if a blowhard like Rick Morrissey says your love for the SOX doesnt count, because there are only 1,000 of you, doesnt get you mad? Man, you have more control than I do.

It ticks me off but I know and those who know me know how deep my life revolves around the Sox and always has.

The media doesnt bug me but I went into an Ihop this weekend and
had my sox jacket and green sox cap on and some guy casually asked so have you always been a fan or just jumped on board.

Thats what ticks me off. All the trendy Sox followers and being grouped in with that element. At times I dont wear my WS champs stuff because it looks like I just bought that gear to get on board..

I'd like to get a shirt that reads Sox fan since the doctor slapped my shiney white butt.

Hangar, you should just ignore it because Rick Morrissey only writes something like that (especially in the middle of the off-season, several months after the World Series) to bait Sox fans. He's got nothing else to talk about, so he writes something silly like that so irate Sox fans can waste their time emailing him and he can turn around and write something about that. Don't take the bait.

I've been getting that too. And my response is, "Well I'll just name you our Opening Day starting line-ups/starting rotations from 1997 'til this year, and you tell me what kind of Sox fan I am"

I think we have every right to be upset. All along the general consensus was that winning will result in more coverage. Well it has a little I guess, but it's still Cub-fest around Chicago.

Sox fans who keep crying about ESPN, the Score, the Tribune, or any source of media that fails to acknowledge us ......

This reminds me of something. I was over at various boards during the playoffs and was getting a kick out of reading their game threads, and what other fanbases were saying about us.

While going thru the posts, I could not help but laugh at the comments a number of the posters made regarding White Sox Fans.
"I thought they supposedly didnt have any fans .........they sound awfully loud"
"Cant believe how loud it sounds there"
"Wow its loud there"
"Man, that place is freaking loud, since when did they get fans?"
"I thought that was supposed to be a big cubs town, doesnt sound like it to me"
"We gotta stop this rally, that place is getting deafening"
"I thought nobody liked the SOX over there"

take what you want out of those comments ..............but its loud and clear to me.

Japan learned it's lesson when they bombed Pearl Harbor. It took a while, but eventually word got around and they woke up a Sleeping Giant. I guess the baseball world will soon realize that the White Sox and us White Sox fans are/were a Sleeping Giant just waiting for the right opporunity to show up. I guess the World Series fit the bill.

i really don't get why this makes people upset. honsetly, what difference does it make? who cares? especially considering the fact that when there is an article about the sox, more often than not, someone will find something in the article to complain about.

but i also have a headache right now so i could just be in a bad mood.

We may not have the most fans but there are about 40,000 die hard fans for our sox and they are more loyal and care more about their team than any other group of fans.

I usually say ( very enthusiastically ) that I just jumped on. "Yep, brand new Sox fan, it's great! I'm not too crazy about US Cellular Park, though. Maybe if they don't win this year, I'll go back to Wrigley!!"
Sometimes they catch the sarcasm, sometimes they don't. I couldn't care less what people think of me.

Sometimes an ignorant column will irk me a little bit, like Greg Couch's column where he spelled out what Ken Williams should have said publicly about Frank Thomas ( his "suggestion" was EXACTLY what KW had said publicly several times ). Most of the time it doesn't bother me, though. Writers try to rile people up - nice columns don't grab as much attention.

Why do some people always have to have something to complain about? Can't you just be happy that we actually lived long enough to see the Sox win the World Series? Man, I thank God every day I got to see it in my lifetime. Every other team's fans are jealous of us right now, especially Cub fans. Let's get some perspective!

Sox fans who keep crying about ESPN, the Score, the Tribune, or any source of media that fails to acknowledge us and the fact that we are the champions everytime there is a baseball story being reported.

The definition of insanity is to do the same thing over and over again and expect a different result.

The media has their biases - always have and always will. You have three options:

1. Find different media (such as articles and viewpoints found here on WSI, go to the White Sox website, etc.).

2. Continue to turn on ESPN & the Score or open the Tribune (or the Cub Times) and understand that is their point of view and learn to live with it AND MOVE ON.

3. Continue to turn on ESPN & the Score or open the Tribune (or the Cub Times) and continue to get upset about the point of view represented by those sources.

1 is the most logical position
2 makes sense if you are a masochist
3 makes sense if you are happiest while complaining

This isn't rocket science. You don't turn on NPR or open the Sun Times, NY Times and Washington Post and expect to find numerous articles praising conservative ideas just as you wouldn't expect the Wall Street Journal, Washington Times or Boston Herald to encourage increased taxes and socialism (or the Tribune to be credible about anything except for Kass).

ESPN will always feature the Yankees, Red Cubs, Cubs and sometimes Mets and Dodgers. The Tribune will always feature the Cubs. Ditto WGN.

Do what more Americans continue to do each day - turn it off / stop buying the paper.

I really don't know how many of us would REALLY love it if the media was entirely up the White Sox's asses. That's a part of the charm of being a lifer (lifer..not Liefer..that would be Jeff, the utility outfielder for the turn of the century Sox (thanks, Farmio)) in Soxdom.

The media and Chicago baseball scene has always looked nonchalantly at the White Sox, and we've all been sitting on our little island, relishing the joys and hating defeats in our own world.

That's one of the things that made last year so magical. First, it was our eyes being opened that the Sox were even being talked about. Then, we see four All-Stars, including the starting pitcher, and then we get a WS championship!!

It used to be en vogue to gripe about the lack of respect the Sox got nationally. Now we know that media coverage doesn't bring titles.
Guys like Hangar, though, are perfect examples of the addage that old habits die hard. God bless 'em. Brings me back to the good old days of this site when we used to gripe about Billy Koch, Julio Ramirez, the Tinkerer, and Manos.
