LESS THAN 5 WEEKS AWAY FROM OPENING NIGHT!

As expected, Pujols by a landslide. There were 33 participants whom voted and all but 1 voted for Albert. He wins with 97% of the votes! To get SOME fun out of this vote, I decided to keep track of the second place votes that I got and here's how the voting went for second best first baseman in the majors; Mark Texeira 42% (8 votes), Derek Lee 26% (5), Todd Helton 21% (4), Paul Konerko and Carlos Delgado 5% each (1 vote each). So congrats to Texeira with a late rally to finish up as the second best first baseman in the game.

Week 1 (Feb. 19 - Feb 25): WSI Best Overall Catcher: Jason Varitek
Week 2a (Feb. 26 - March 4): WSI Best Overall First Baseman: Albert Pujols
Week 2b (March 1 - March 4): Best Third Baseman
Week 3 (March 5 - March 11): Best Shortstop
Week 4 (March 12 - March 18): Best Second Baseman
Week 5 (March 19 - March 25): Best Leftfielder (19th-21st)/Best Centerfielder (22nd-25th)
Week 6 (March 26 - April 1): Best Rightfielder (26th-28th)/Best Starting Pitcher (29th-1st)

Moving right along to shortstop. Now I think we ALL know Alex Rodriguez will is the best third baseman in the game. But like we did with the first basemen voting, try to give me your top 5 or at least your top 3, so we can find out who finishes behind A-Rod. Here are some names to consider; Miguel Cabrera, Melvin Mora, Scott Rolen, Eric Chavez, Aramis Ramirez, David Wright, Morgan Ensberg, Chipper Jones, and Aubrey Huff.

Here's my top 5 list...
t-5) David Wright
t-5) Eric Chavez
t-3) Aramis Ramirez
t-3) Scott Rolen
2) Miguel Cabrera
1) Alex Rodriguez

What does your top 3 or top 5 (or 6 :D: ) look like?

Call me old fashioned, but A-Rod is the best shortstop in my mind. He shouldn't be playing third for the Yankees.

1) Pay-Rod
2) Rolen

3)Doesn't Cabrera primarily play OF??

**Anybody think Crede could crack the top 5 by next year??**

If he plays the way he did the last month and half of 2005, he could be #4/5.

Ok Hawk.

A-Rod is the best 3rd baseman even if his defense is a little suspect.

I would take Crede over Blalock.

Yeah, I debated this one. I don't really have a good reason why I went with Blalock except that I always remember a story Sholwalter told about Blalock that I enjoy. After a game, Sholwater walks into the clubhouse and finds Blalock drinking a beer and talking baseball. He was jamming out to loud music; he wasn't distracted by something else; he loves baseball and wanted to talk about it. Sholwater (who I am not the biggest fan of) said it reminded him of the old ballplayers. I kind of like that. So again, I think you are right; that story popped into my head and I listed Blalock. I think Crede's glove is far superior to Blalock's indeed.

You guys truly believe Scott Rolen is better than Miguel Cabrera right now?

Cabrera Last 2 seasons:
2004: 160 G, .294 AVG, .366 OBP, 33 HR, 112 RBI
2005: 158 G, .323 AVG, .385 OBP, 33 HR, 116 RBI

Rolen Last 2 seasons:
2004: 142 G, .314 AVG, .409 OBP, 34 HR, 124 RBI
2005: 56 G, .235 AVG, .323 OBP, 5 HR, 28 RBI

I understand Rolen's defense is superb and he's a game changer in the hot corner, but he has been unreliable to say the least, lately. Hopefully he bounces back this year and kicks ass, but if I had to choose, Miggy would go before Scott.

Last year Cabrera primarily played outfield. He will move back to 3rd this season with the trade of Lowell. But I figure we should wait and see what happens before ranking him as a 3rd baseman. I also wonder what his numbers will look like without any support in the lineup...

1. A-Rod. I don't hate him as much as others do, as he lives up to his hype and is a great hitter. Jeter, on the other hand...

2. Miguel Cabrera.

3. David Wright.

Also, if we're voting on projections for this season, then

4. Chad Tracy.

In my tired of feeling like a leper way, here are my very conventional picks for most offensive third basemen in major league baseball (no Japanese included.)

1) Alex Rodriguez
2) Chipper Jones
3) Morgan Ensberg
4) Aramis Ramirez
5) David Wright (barely edging out Troy Glaus)

Want to know why?

A-Rod is the best in the game, but I think Eric Chavez is the most underrated, and if he put up better power numbers, he could top A-Rod.

1. A-Rod
2. Eric Chavez
3. Miguel Cabrera
4. Aramis Ramirez - Yeah, hes a Cub, but he is a great player.
5. David Wright

I think having a great glove at third base is very underrated. As such, my list is as follows:

1) Alex Rodriguez
2) Eric Chavez
3) Scott Rolen
4) Smokin' Joe Crede
5) Miguel Cabrera

***** with all the people voting Crede in the top 5. The guy had a great postseason, but come on.

I'm really curious as to why no one else is mentioning Chipper Jones. He's been solid as a rock although is not so flashy. He did play only just over 100 games last year.
